Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All skate decks were re-groomed this morning, and a classic track set on the 8K, so everything is groomed for skate and classic. Snow remains untransformed and soft, and the classic tracks need to harden, but all skiers reported good skiing today, under an all-day dusting of light snow. Our trails will be open until 12:30 tonight, for skiers wishing to put on a headlamp and ski into the new year. Our next planned grooming will be on Saturday morning. Thank you for skiing Snowflake in 2020, and best wishes for a Happy, Snowy, and Healthy 2021!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We had 9” of powder, and still snowing as we began compacting and grooming this morning. We put three sleds, two Ginzus, and a roller/compacter to work, and have groomed all 14K for skating, and set a new track on the 6K. Dry, un-transformed snow, the decks are still soft and the classic tracks are fragile, but should improve with being skied-in. Overall, beautiful trail conditions. Be advised that a vehicle was broken into last Sunday afternoon, in the lower parking lot. Conceal, or don’t leave valuables in your cars, particularly in the two lower lots.

Both 6k and 8k in good shape. 8k firmed up nicely by late afternoon. Much fun. Thanks John / Jim / groomers!

Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All skate decks were groomed this morning. Still a bit soft, but beautiful. Classic tracks on the 6K and 8K have firmed-up and are 99.9% intact. I classic-skied both trails yesterday, and the track was fast and fabulous. We are open 8-8 all week. Chalet and rentals remain closed due to Covid protocols.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails were cleared, compacted, and groomed this morning. The skate deck remains soft, as the snow has not transformed, but there is 100% coverage and a smooth surface. New classic tracks were set on both the 8k and 6K. The tracks are well formed, but soft at this time. We removed one fallen tree from the 8K, and a lot of branches, and there is still small wind debris in some sections, but overall the trails are in great shape and I’m finally comfortable recommending “Good” skis.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Due to the low temps, wind, and wind chill of 20-30 below zero, we have not taken the sleds out to survey, clear debris, and re-groom the trails. It’s unsafe, and much as we’d like to have groomed trails on Christmas, would be reckless. Grooming plans: We are not working on Christmas, so we’ll begin work on the 6K trail on Saturday morning, and post progress reports as we go. In order, we will re-open the 6K, the Perimeter Loop, and the 8K. If any adventurous skiers or snowshoers go out before then, and would like to report downed trees, please contact us. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and stay well.

Went around 3:30 pm, parking lots were chalk full. Tons of people out getting in K’s. Got out on the 8/10km track this afternoon, it was grand. A few spots looked low on snow but no issue. The snow was slower on that loop compared to the 5km that I hit up last. Overall grand!

Winter wonderland at Snowflake Nordic! Classic skied George's (long) Trail. Track was in good condition. Groomers came by smoothing the skate lane while I was out skiing the trail. I put down B skis as I noticed a few minor spots, but overall good ski conditions.

Night
Firsthand: Classic Lost/Found
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Nice conditions for classic. 3+ inches new fallen snow. Track in good shape. 5K fine for good skis. Skied part of 8K until headlamp ran out. Track in good shape. Not sure if Hovland's hill and some of the other parts which were exposed yesterday are good for best skis as I didn't get far enough.
Found: Albuterol rescue inhaler found at 3.5K of the 5K. Put it on the window ledge above the check-in box at the front door of the chalet.

Winter has arrived! New snow is soft of course as it hasn’t frozen up yet but many of the lumps that made you feel like you were water skiing the last month are almost entirely gone. Used my brand new skis on 6k and 8k, no worries. Did some double pole in the track as well and it was nice - firmer than expected. Awesome conditions, can’t wait for things to harden up a bit cause we’ll be absolutely flying then!
