Did one lap of the 5k loop on the old rock skis to make sure it was good. Jump over to the “fast” long boards. The snow was soft but good coverage so no worry about skis getting damaged. Lots of people out enjoying the snow, even a few city slickers came up!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
4” of perfect snow overnight was a great gift from Santa! This morning we compacted and groomed every trail, including the Perimeter Loop segments and the Ice Oval. New classic tracks were set on the 6K and 8K. The new snow has not transformed or had a freeze cycle, so it is soft and the classic tracks are fragile. Therefore no dogs on the trails until we update the status. Snow resumed after we groomed, so we will re-groom tomorrow, assess the snow-base, and post updates. It is beautiful out there!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
All trails were skate-groomed this morning. The 6K is “good”, with a few small exposed spots that are easily avoided, and some “harmonic ripples” on the flat sections. We can’t groom-out the ripples until we have more snow, because the base is too thin to shave them out. The amazingly durable classic track remains hard and skiable. The 8K has more, and larger, exposed spots. I recommend rock-skis and confident agility if you ski the 8K, particularly the first 4K. Hovland Hill is closed, and use caution on the Pulse Loop and Chandra’s Curve/Tim’s Turn. We are open 8-8 Mon-Sat and 8-6 on Sunday. Check our website for a KidSki 2021 update. Next grooming planned for Monday morning.

Temperature was 31F. I marked "good skis" because I think the bad spots are easily avoidable. If we didn't have skin skis it would be "klister all the way." Skied the 4km and 1km special k loops at 7pm, it's really moist out there. It's still wiggly because there hasn't been enough snow to reset it in weeks. The skate lane has new bare/dirty spots, still can be skied around but keep an eye out.

Temp was 23F. I classic skied about 2/3 of the 5k trail. Even with one one bare spot in the classic track and a large bare patch at the very end of the 5km, I was totally comfy using my good skis (cuz I don't have B skis!) The classic track is longing for a re-groom, but without new snow it probably won't happen. Still, very good conditions, even for the newbie skier with whom I was skiing. Thanks, John!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
About 1” of fluff overnight was a helpful addition to the trails. All 14K were skate groomed this morning. The 6K is “good”, with only a few exposed spots that are easy to see and avoid. The 6K classic track is 95% intact, and benefited from fresh snow being skied-in. The 8K skate deck is much improved, we were able to groom the Pulse Loop again, and the only sections that warrant caution are Hovland Hill and Tim’s Turn; otherwise, B-skis on the 8K. The ice oval got it’s first grooming, but has a lot of debris, and won’t be decent until we get 2-3 inches of snow on it. We are open to day-pass skiers again. Next grooming is planned for Friday morning.

Great skate skiing this morning, fresh grooming on all trails done by 9/10am. Both 6km and 8km fully open, except for Hovland's Hill which was blocked off. Occasional small rough patches which are easily avoided. Classic track looked OK on 6km, and not much on the 8km. Awesome job grooming and maintaining the trails, helped by a little bit of fresh snow on Sunday and Tuesday. Incredible to have 14km of good trail open, with no major recent snowfalls. Thank you John and team.

Snowflake remains decent. Groomers made a few passes while we skied. Yes, the ripples/washboard persist on isolated stretches. Yes, a few gray spots probably bad for skis but easily avoided. But overall the 6k is good good and good. Microclimate + excellent management.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied everything except the first half of the 8km, which is closed off with caution tape and I decided not to go there. Yesterday’s inch of powder is really making a difference and classicing with the new snow and cold temps was great! Nothing has been re-groomed since the snow fell however (yet). Tracks on the 6km aren't too shabby, pretty much no tracks on the second half of 8km but classic skiing on the skate deck was pretty decent.

Weather was -14C (7F) sunny breeze. The tracks haven't been reset for a while, but they're pretty darn good. There's enough irregularity to keep you on your toes. Good opportunity to practice balance. I skied the 4km, Special K 1km and the biathlon loops. All very nice.
