Reports 39 to 48 of 58    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Friday, January 13, 2023
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic track was fair to poor. Tracks are a little icy about an inch and a half deep, except for the spots were the ice fell off the trees. Skate deck was fair to good. The groomers did a good job of roughing it up.

Spring skiing conditions. A firm crusty base that was easy to get an edge on. Sticks and twigs on the trail in the woods. Skied early today when it was 31 degrees.

Firm and fast skating in the freezing fog. Skated on trail segments on the golf course side of old 32 with Jim the trail groomer. Classic tracks were glazed, skate lane was solid.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I skied most of my time around the golf but did go on some other trails. I thought they were very good trails, everything was well groomed and tracks set nice. Yes, they can use more snow but everyone that I talked to today was happy with the trails. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied the golf course, out to 8 K and around the beginners loop. A thin layer of granular snow on top of a hard base. The trail surface is uneven except on the golf course where it is level. Pretty nice early season skating. Classic tracks well were skied in.

Skate skied from old 32 to golf course and took several laps. Some debris on trip to golf course, golf course was nice. A half inch of snow over ice. Thankful to be out skiing, did 10 miles.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Skied the golf course and the big hills behind the golf course. A firm but uneven base was covered with a quarter to a half inch of silky, fresh snow. Full coverage on the trail with a fair amount of sticks and debris. The conditions are still early season, but the glide was quite nice!

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
I skated and classic skied all segments between the 6 and 18K markers. Areas north of the Old 32 parking lot offered better striding than the Beginners Loop. I do not recommend the Beginners Loop if you're going to classic due to several areas were the track is very thin. Skaters will enjoy the entire area as thin areas and woods debris are manageable. Thank you to the grooming squad for making it worth the drive. Carpe Skiem!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Skied the golf course and out to Sullivan Spring road. A firm and fast skate deck that made for a fun ski despite the sticks, leaves and dirt patches in some areas. The base is undulating but skiable. Classic tracks are well worn.

Skating done from golf course through 16K. The better portion is six through 16K for both skate and classic. The weather has caused the course to suffer. Definitely rock skis. Ironically, the glide was very good.
