Located 18 miles north of Duluth, the groomed trails are in nice primitive outdoor setting. The trails feature the "Wolfski's Ski Den" warming shack, open daily sunrise to sunset. In addition to the 21 kilometers of classical skiing, there will also be 11 kilometers groomed for skate-skiing. Trails are groomed Fridays and Mondays, and/or as needed. No fee or Minnesota State Ski Pass is required.

We did a short loop at Boulder late Wednesday. Looked like they got an inch or more of wet snow. We parked in the east lot and just skied out to and around Lonesome Grouse. Coverage was 100 percent and there are still traces of a track. Slow going but beautiful and fun to be out. That unpaved parking area is going to get squishy and muddy in the sun; there was barely any snow on it.

Skated the full loop this morning. A bit rutty early on around 9:30. But trails were softening by 10:30 and should be fun for a few hours yet before getting to warm. Only bad section of trail was the last km of Bear Paw where there were lots of footprints all over the skate deck. No complaints for March 20th!

We tried crust skating on the lake and it didn't go so well (surface is pretty rough, and the heavier member of our ski party kept breaking through) so we switched to classic, messed around on the lake and did a couple of laps on Otter Run. Temp was just heading above freezing when we got there. It was crisp in the shade, mushy in the sun, but there's still a shallow semblance of a track and coverage is 100 percent. Gorgeous, sunny morning with frozen fog in the branches that vanished while we were skiing.

Saturday night's snowfall made for good ski experience for me Sunday. Just did Bear Paw, but it was fast and fun. Couple warmed spots got glazed from the sun but was not disappointed at all. So glad I went. I caught the moon in the sky again as I had done on earlier ski trip this year so added a couple pics.

Skied all the skating loops and was pleasantly surprised to find the trail was groomed overnight. The result was perfect trail conditions minus some minor debris around pine trees. Phenomenal grooming effort made for my most enjoyable ski this year!

Trails were groomed last night and then we had a very light, dry snowfall overnight. I skied the snowshoe/backcountry ski trails Lone Wolf and Moose Tracks. I had mistakenly prepped another pair of skis for glazed conditions on the groomed trails. Both those trails are in excellent condition (except deep drifting on the marshy parts of Moose Tracks), as is the groomed Otter Run. Definitely a weekend to hit Boulder!

After the beautiful fresh grooming yesterday, fresh grooming again today! At freezing or just below, bright blue skies, a bit of wind was no problem. Fastest track of the year (skaters said same about the skate lane), and unbelievably, Swix extra blue still giving great kick except in a very few places in direct sun. Maybe I have had some skis this year just as enjoyable, but none better!

Trails were groomed and allowed to set overnight. This resulted in just about perfect conditions for skate and classic today. I'm always amazed at the high quality grooming done here that is rarely matched by other trails in the Duluth area. Definitely worth the short drive.

26 F, beautiful blue skies, copious amount of snow, wonderful grooming, what a great ski at Boulder this afternoon. Beth skated while I was striding, and we both had excellent conditions. A few places where the tracks were glazed from yesterday's sun, but most of those are on a flat. Very rare soft right pole plant where the snow had drifted. Best glide of the year, and yet Swix extra blue provided plenty of kick. Keep these days coming!

Nice deep tracks, in great shape! Beautiful day! Snow was fast at the beginning but got sticky as temperatures warmed. Skied Nine Pine, Blue Ox, and Lonesome Grouse.
