Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I started on the West side, all trails and hills groomed and in excellent condition. Skating was as good as it's been all season. There were some shallow spots in the tracks and a little icing so I'd give the edge to skating. On the East side I was delighted to see that the slalom down the hill was groomed and the runout had been extended as well as leveling off the big hump on the side of loop. But once again incomplete grooming lessened what would have been all around great skiing. The second hill down to Raymond was not groomed again. I don't understand this as the groomer passes the hill at the top and bottom to groom the other trails. The classical track runs from the West side but ends at the shelter. Grooming here used to be meticulous, on a par with and better than many state parks but not this year.

I skied the West again and all the trails were groomed. What remains of the classical tracks is solid ice. The skate deck was in mostly good condition given snow depth and previous warm temperatures. Some spots were still icy, the second hill was wicked but I did see skiers coming down the first hill and the one through the soccer field. Much better than yesterday and a big thanks to the anonymous woman filling in the 3 large bare spots!

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I skied the West lower loop, not very good but better than I expected. Both icy and soft thin classical tracks and skate deck. Amazingly only two small bare spots in the tracks and one large bare spot above the soccer field where the trails meet. Hills are not good, pretty icy. There may be enough depth to refresh the skate deck but I don't think the classical tracks have enough to be reset.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Fairly soft due to warming conditions, but only a very few small patches getting down to ground, snow coverage was still good. The trails under trees were the best bet, everything in the open was getting sloppy. Somewhere between A and B skis- A skis are fine if you're careful to avoid those patches and small bits of debris in some areas.

Overall, still quite good apart from some spots with dirt and debris. The grooming wasn't perfect (the West Loop had seen a lot use and was starting to get choppy in places, and the East Trails were very hard packed and uneven in places), but it seems like conditions have improved since earlier reports this week. I found everything to be perfectly skiable and enjoyable. Hopefully it lasts through the weekend!

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
All of the trails are open with the exception of the first hill on the West none of the hills have been groomed even though grooming was done again today. Where groomed skiing was excellent but it's disappointing to have three of the best hills in such poor condition and not worth the effort to climb.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied from 2:30-5PM. The west side was almost completely groomed but not quite. Snow coverage is complete. Tracks were showing a lot of glazing. I would rate the West side as good to fair. The east side, unfortunately, was not groomed. I was quite disappointed because the snow was not skied on much during the last warm couple of days and would have groomed nicely. The "herd" tracks were not very flat. I only put up with 1/2 a lap on the East side and would rate it as poor/fair. With temps at 32-33F, I used my skins and they worked nicely.

The groomers had just finished rolling the new inch+ of snow. Skate deck was predictably soft and slow, but the new coating covered up the debris. Given a grooming and some time to set up the trails should be in great condition. Enjoy the new snow!

Firsthand: Classic

Skied the west trails this morning, saw the groomer in action over by the manmade loop. Overall good shape, just the usual oak leaves made classic a little slow. Other than that very good conditioins!

Elver was gorgeous today! We were amazed at the quality of the snow cover - in the 17 kilometers we skied I only saw one stick that could have done any damage. The occasional leaf shows up, more in the skate lane than anything. Tracks, where set, were in great shape. There are trails open on the east side that haven't been open for several years and are so fun to ski! The trails were getting a lot of use but holding up well - Thanks for the great work groomers!
