Reports 18 to 22 of 22    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skied the entire Blue loop and snow coverage was fine. The trail was soft and uneven in some areas but overall not too bad.

Firsthand: Freestyle Observation
[ Good skis ]
Soft and Slow. Skied Red and White (4 times) trails. White was the best looking trail. I hoped to ski Blue, but from what I saw on Red and could see at intersections with Blue, it looked pretty fluffy. Groomers were out during the afternoon. Track was set and looked great. Thin conditions, down to the hard, icy base with some grass poking through, in just a couple of places.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Another 2" of fresh sticky snow over a thin base that made for tough skiing. Did 14k but only on the purple and brown trails. I had my good skis so I did not do other trails due to rocks. Still nice to ski the scenic Nordic trail for the first time this season.

[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Wow! Just enough wet packing snow for DNR to roll all the trails today. Skated white, purple and brown loops with grass/pine needle ground cover under packed snow in late afternoon. B skis recommended for those trails. Also creatively skated sections of orange, green, blue and red trails to check them out and recommend rock skis because of eroded trail sections known for their rocks. A few classic skiers I saw had big smiles and were doing just fine without a set track. Winter wonderland!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
Despite trails being groomed Friday, it was difficult to tell. Very thin layer and didn't really seem packed. Rocks just barely covered, but you'll definitely hit them on the green/blue/red/orange, especially trying to go up hills. Drifts in fields were pleasant, but woods had pine debris all over paired with the rocks. Purple was better since there are minimal rocks on it. Not good enough to go back and I do tend to force bad conditions to work.
