I skated all the trails at Spirit Upper this morning. Larry the groomer was out doing a good job grooming the 10k as I skied. The 3k and campground loops had already been done. The groomed trail was new snow slow and the ungroomed snow was 2-3" deep and felt like slow butter. Both made for a great workout. Thanks to Larry for grooming.

Grooming [ Trails Open: All, ]
|
Greetings! Upper Spirit Mountain campground, 3K and 5K skate decks have been groomed as of 3p.m. today. The tracks were left intact as they were in good shape. Leaves, small twigs and acorns are numerous on each trail due to recent high winds and no fresh snow fall. However, trails are now receiving a light coating of snow so hopefully that organic matter will be buried until spring! Plans are to groom the 10K on Sunday and re-track all trails if enough new snow falls overnight. Enjoy!

Spirit mountain trails were very good due to the coating of light snow from last night. If not for that coating, the trail would have been rough, knotty, rutted with a crusty clattering fast surface that would be hard to handle. They have not groomed the past couple of days, someone told us the snowmobile used for grooming had broken down. The trail did soften up a bit in the afternoon but is not a smooth as Magney Snively.

I skied on the upper trails. The snow was very slow and the base was not great for skate skiing. Prepare to have difficulty planting your poles with the lack of solid base. There was a fair amount of debris on the trails. I would recommend your B or rock skis.

Trails are in great shape. A few branches down here and there, and a little rutted from the warm up, but generally great conditions and great glide. It didn't appear that they had been groomed recently, but that didn't impact the quality much.

I went skiing on the lower trails and I would recommend rock skis. There was a significant amount of debris on the trail and there were large cracks and completely bare spots that could catch you if you aren't paying close attention. I was planning on doing a few loops at night but I did one and determined it wasn't worth the risk of damaging skis or poles.

I skied the outer trails at Spirit today. Nothing there has been groomed yet. There's about 2 inches of snow on top of a layer of ice. There are lots of small tree branches that fell down onto the trail, but not a big deal.

Trails were a bit icy but conditions were otherwise fabulous, especially considering the warm weather this week. Chalet was open.

Grooming [ Trails Open: All, ]

Good evening. Trails at Upper Spirit Mountain are in good condition. The campground loop has been heavily used and is skied out. The next grooming will take place after possible weekend snow. Watch for updates and enjoy the trails until then.

Very good skiing at upper Spirit Mountain Nordic trails this afternoon. Very few leaves, a firm base and a clean corduroy for skaters. All loops plus campground loop is ready for you! Parking lot is plowed and when the chalet is closed, a biffy is nearby. Thank you to the City of Duluth Parks Maintenance crew for an excellent groom.
