Observation
There is a tree down across trail on the Outer loop, close to Old Hartley Rd area. Old tree, exploded on trail leaving about 20 yards worth of sticks. Impassable unless you want to wade in the snow.

Sunny, 4 degrees F, brisk NW wind at 15 mph. Fresh grooming, I was first or second skier on the beautiful tracks at this classic-only trail, less than 1 km from my front door. Thanks, Duluth City groomers! Swix Polar hard wax, waxed very short, gave plenty of kick, glide was "fair to middlin". I got my first Swix special green in Norm Oakvik's basement in the fall of 1968, and I still have the Swix polar I bought some time later, and it has gotten use this year. If you are layered up, mask-up, and use goggles, it's not too bad, and it is certainly beautiful out in the woods!

All in all, Hartley is in good shape. Skied a couple laps on Sunday afternoon. Tracks are in good shape with some oak leaves blown into them. Must have been groomed after the snow/wind on Friday night. Good snow coverage in all areas.

We skied Hartley when it was a balmy zero or so today. The tracks were firm like concrete throughout and about 97% debris free. In the areas between tracks on the trail, it was also like slippery concrete with very little to no usage from all the use in the past day or so.

A slow 7 AM trip around the Hartley system. Trails were definitely skiable, in that there was mostly only leaves in tracks and not pine pitch/pine needles and I only needed to get out of the tracks once due to material in the tracks. Not as bad as last time the big winds came a few weeks back. Some places the tracks were obliterated due to drifting. Hopefully wind dies before grooming happens again.

Beautiful scenes at Hartley this morning. Got out before the groomers so the tracks weren’t set yet, had no trouble getting through the powder though. Tracks a bit soft going around corners and on the steep downhill on the south side.

The trail has been fresh groomed since Sunday, so for anyone who experienced a lot of leaves and other tree parts in tracks due to the weekend winds, that is now gone! Now, only a few leaves here and there. Tracks are as deep as can be, firm, and not icy. Downhills are much more fun without leaves - you can stay in the tracks. Gliding has returned to our Northland skiing with this warmer weather! This morning's ski is the kind where you start driving home and wonder why everyone else is going so slow, then you realize you're still in ski mode.

Trails were well groomed! Nicely set and skied tracks, with a few leaves here and there (as you'd expect while surrounded by trees). Lots of little kids out learning today too!

Classic tracks were groomed today. The smaller segments aren’t groomed but there are tracks from other skiers. Other than that trails are in great condition.

Best ski I’ve had in a long time. Used green special kick wax and never had a ski slip once in 12 degree or so weather. Tracks were pretty good shape; a bit skied out at some of the curves but not bad. A fresh few inches should help freshen up the tracks.
