Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As of Friday 3:00 PM the course was not groomed for skate or classic. Trail blazed the fresh 2" of light fluffy powder. Still had a nice glide with the hard base. Absolutely gorgeous. Just like downhill skiing and being the first one down the hill on 6" of fresh powder. What a treat this year has been.

Got out in the heat of the day, about 3:00pm. Fresh cordoroy on the skate trail. A little soft but should firm up nice tonight. Double set of classic tracks. Best conditions ever at Whitnal. Thanks Jason and Ryan.

Firsthand: Classic

Skied Whitnall Park Thursday before the storm and it was all perfectly groomed with more extensive tracks than I'd ever experienced in prior years. Went back on Friday and it's all drifted over. Individuals have been blazing classical tracks so skiing traditional style wasn't too bad. No ice anywhere, seems they only had a snow event.

Dennis and I classic skied the entire park twice. Classic tracks are great. Initally it was a little slow but we got better glide as the temps dropped around 5pm. Skating track was groomed but looked a little soft but we only strided so this is just an observation.

Great snowfall yesterday has led to great conditions today. Had a great time with freshly groomed trails. Gentle snow with no icy areas noted!

All trails were groomed after the new snowfall. Conditions slower due to the soft new snow. Should firm up tonight. Unfortunately, already a couple of walkers plodding right through middle of the trail.

Skied the red loop around 2pm on Tuesday. Trails are pretty marginal, about what you'd expect with recent traffic and weather. Very slippery and icy, poking through in a few places, and you kind of take your life in your hands on the big hill. Skate track is pretty rutted and pocked and has ATV tracks on it at times. Still better than nothing, and faster than driving to Lapham if you live in the southern Milwaukee area!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Very firm base. Classic tracks are largely still skiable, but shallow. The skate deck looked rutted, though there is still decent coverage. A few bare spots (dirt, grass) are beginning to poke through on both. Lots of people have been walking, snowshoeing, skiing and apparently even ATV-ing on the golf course, sometimes crossing the groomed trails. The groomed trail was occasionally hard to follow in low afternoon light due to the amount of off-trail use. Trails are in need of re-grooming, though I'm not sure if it will be possible until there is more snow.

Groomer was out this morning. Trail was groomed and in excellent condition for skating.  All the trees were sparkling. A winter wonderland.
