Notes

The Lester-Amity trail offers 15K of varied terrain for beginner to experienced skiers through pine, aspen, and birch forests. An additional 3K circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. The openness of the golf course offers an excellent place for beginning cross-country skiers, and several short cuts are available. There is also a 5K trail portion that is lit in the mornings and evenings.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I went down to ski this afternoon and the conditions were amazing. The skate deck was flat and fast the whole outer loop and the classic tracks felt solid too. I had no issues with my poles planting in the snow either. Besides coming up the hill from the very bottom of the trails where there are a few downed branches that are easily avoidable, the trails are excellent. Make sure to come visit the chalet on seven bridges road too, where a warm cup of hot chocolate awaits.

Good to see groomed trails at Lester. As far as I can tell they've groomed the whole thing. Not really any classic tracks to speak of. Skate deck is variable mostly firm though its soft on some of the steeper up hills. As to be expected with this amount of snow the grooming is not 100% but moving forward it should be much better. Right now it's a bit bumpy with ruts here and there. The groomer sunk in a bit in spots. Some tree debris in the beginning. Some human postholing. Overall definitely fun and worth skiing just not A+ conditions yet. Notes: steep downhill by chalet very icy and rutted, be careful!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Lots of downed trees at the bottom coming up from the park; best to go along the river a bit and then up. Groomed nicely for skate skiing, no track set yet. Snow was a tad soft.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As of noon the trail is groomed for skating. No classical track yet but still easy to ski. Also, take care at the bottom of some of the hills where there are holes and broken snow. The wind has knocked down some of the snow in the trees but not all. Upper end is quite gorgeous.

Observation Scheduling
The plow just went by our house at 9:05 am. While clearing my driveway at 9:30, City of Duluth groomer drove by on the way to the trails. Life is finally good.

Observation Scheduling
Warning: Do not try and reach the Lester Amity Ski Trails by road. Although the ski trails have been groomed, Occidental Blvd / 7 Bridges Road has not been plowed, and is not driveable. Tuesday evening, me and my neighbors helped get four cars free which had gotten stuck below the first bridge. Please stay away! You can not reach the parking lot at The Deeps, let alone the Amity Ski Chalet, at this time. You can park at Lester Park playground down by Superior Street.
Image was taken of Occidental Blvd below the first bridge.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Rock skis ]
The lower loops are rolled but not tracked, up to and including D. There's a skier-set track on the upper loops. The rolled portions are very bumpy and thin, but skiable. The ungroomed loops made for better skiing. Overall, way better than not skiing.
