Notes

The Lester-Amity trail offers 15K of varied terrain for beginner to experienced skiers through pine, aspen, and birch forests. An additional 3K circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. The openness of the golf course offers an excellent place for beginning cross-country skiers, and several short cuts are available. There is also a 5K trail portion that is lit in the mornings and evenings.

Trail not set but previous classic track in mostly excellent shape thanks to skiers. A few slick patches here and there. Nice to have my wax working again after the fresh snowfall. Got some kick!

Skate deck was icy when we got there around 5pm (to be expected after 40 degrees and sun) but relatively smooth with no big ruts. I would avoid the southern-most loop below Marker A- lots of bare patches and rocks down there. Otherwise conditions fine for B skis with some debris and dirt patches that can be avoided.

Super nice conditions at Lester this morning. The groomers worked some real trail magic. Fresh corduroy and solid classic tracks. Beware the section up from the playground, however. It was the one bare spot I encountered. Had to take off my skis and walk past the bike trail crossing. But other than that, all good, even the hill back down to the playground.

Lester had been groomed and tracked this morning before I arrived at 9:30 am. No icy conditions, no soft spots, no debris on trail, and plenty of sunshine. Conditions were excellent. Thank you groomers!

Lester was in the process of being groomed when I began ski at 8:45 am. I was able to take advantage of of new tracks up to the C loop and then again when I met up with the L loop. Swix special blue seemed to work well in 30 degree conditions. Enjoy!

What a beautiful afternoon on the course. Light snow during my full Lester loop. Classic tracks were skied in and in good conditions. Skate deck was in good condition as well. Course had accumulated snow and with warmer temps made for a little grip in the tracks. Just great to be out!

Apparently groomed today, the trails were in pristine condition. Nice deep tracks with minimal debris. Skate deck looked flawless too. Perfect day. Get out there!

Very very firm! The tracks and the skate deck are both in good shape, especially considering it's been a week and a half since they were groomed and it never snows here anymore. The classic tracks have a fair amount of debris in them here and there. I was glad to be on fish scales.

A beautiful cold ski. The skate deck was hard and fast (for sub zero temps!). The classic tracks were beautifully solid and run to ride on the downhills. There was a little bark and pinecone debris, but otherwise very nice conditions!

Hit every trail except for "A" down into Lester playground and back up (10.3K total). Duluth has received 5-6" since I last skied this lower portion but it was in really poor condition then and I'm not willing to try it out with my good skis. The rest of the trails are all in great condition, with well set track and a firm skate deck. Even with temps at -8 with mild wind chill it was a great outing!
