Several people were out enjoying the trails this morning. Most had skins or fish-scale skis. I used classic skis with Swix V55 Special in the wax pocket and that worked well enough. Trails were better than 99% snow-covered. The headwaters of Merritt Creek have opened up so spring skiers cross bridges to the sound of gurgling open water. A few stretches are verging on slushy and occasionally a bit dirty. But the old snow still makes for mostly fine skiing with very little debris. Last night went moonlight skiing in 40-degree weather and had a memorable outing.

The grooming they did at Piedmont is still holding up well! Pole plants are firm, tracks are intact despite footprints, 99.9 percent debris free, 97% clean snow, 99.9 % coverage... the only spots with some snow missing are by "The butt stops here" and one other very small spot. Don't let the first part scare you away, its' got a lot of snow left! I used my good skis with no problem.

Nearly 100% snow coverage. Seems there is one other skier that is helping me keep a nice set of tracks since 9 days ago when the last grooming occurred. Mornings are icy and fast and afternoon are expectedly soft. But is very acceptable and wonderful to still be out!

Ungroomed, but fairly good skied in tracks, though some foot traffic. 100% snow covered and 4-5 inch base. Used skin skis and they worked pretty well- some glazed track; temp 40F; heavenly spring sun!

Piedmont has lots of snow! Thank you to the person who reskied in the nice track. 100 percent coverage, debris free, kinda deep pole plants, deep intact tracks! We had an interesting experience. The snow was pristine, except for two people who walked on it leaving deep footprints.

Piedmont continues to be 100% covered with no debris in the trails. We skied midday and it was about 33 or 34 degrees. The track that had been skied in was fast, icy in spots but they were well formed and deep so it was super fun to double pole. The other track was only skied in by me yesterday or still had snow in it. The middle was soft enough to run up again. We had frost falling on us, it was so neat! The patterns it made in the tracks were artistic too. There were a ton of deep footprints though, made after I skied yesterday.

Piedmont is 100 % covered, the grooming last week made for skied in tracks that are deep and solid and the 2 plus inches of snow refreshed it again. If people would just stop walking on it, we would be able to ski for awhile longer!

We so appreciate such a beautifully groomed trail for classic skiing — thank you! Nice, quick ski on slightly icy tracks that began to soften in places around noon-12:30 p.m. Best to snowplow down the big hill a ways before getting back in the tracks. Slightly slippery on the uphills but good kick otherwise. Photo says it all :).

We skied Piedmont around 11:am today and wow...what a treat! Fresh tracks, fresh cord! I had my almost totally worn out skins on and the tracks were pretty fast but the middle was just right for running up ...it was so fun to double pole then run! The last lap things were just starting to warm up in the sunny spots. This is the latest I can ever remember fresh grooming by the city of Duluth...thank you groomers! ( This is NOT an April Fool's. joke...it's real!).

Classic trails have well-set tracks with icy patches. Conditions improve away from the trailhead. I used classic skis with stickier wax under the foot and had an enjoyable time. The short, 1.2 k. skate loop is in freshly-groomed, new-snow condition. The west hillside of Duluth received rain, then 3 to 4 inches of snow on Wednesday morning, so the new snow was wet underneath when trails were groomed on Thursday. Coverage is 100%. The only reason not to use good skis might be the ice in the classic tracks at the start.
