Skating the Fern Dell loop. The deck was in fairly good shape, with some spots showing dirt and tree roots, but these could mostly be skied around. Probably not groomable again until there is more snow, though. The few areas fully open to the sun - on a cloudy day - were getting really wet and slow. The tracks had lots of leaves in them, and there was other debris on the trail. I'd rate conditions only fair. We need more snow!

Fern Dell skating: 95% excellent with some minor leaves and debris, but, most significantly, two or three segments of chopped up ground. Nevertheless, those spots were pretty easy to get through. Otherwise it was firm and fast and really enjoyable. Northwest, Pioneer, Newport and Ishnala classic: these trails weren’t groomed as recently as Fern Dell, so the skating deck had an inch of fluff on top that I’m sure slowed things down. It was plenty tamped down in the classic tracks, though, so that would’ve been very good except for pesky and persistent leaves. Nothing can be done about that except wait for new snow, but there were a fair amount of spots where I got slowed down. And some spots of mud and grass poking through. All told, though, it’s in good shape, it was just so, so close to being perfect.

Fern Dell and Turtleville trails have been recently groomed. Good skiing conditions. Now if the red oak leaves can just stay out of tracks. Hastings trail across the road was groomed earlier before the 2" of snow but good skiing. Thanks to state park workers for good trails! Don't forget to get your State Park Trail Pass to support trail maintenance!

I skate skied Ferndell, Turtleville, and Hastings. Not too bad. A flat deck, some bare ground, some debris, but all of it fairly easy to avoid. I would use your B skis. Not great but very skiable. The track for striders looks pretty good.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Skied Mirror Lake Saturday morning. Ferndell, Turtleville, Hastings, Pioneer, and Ishnala had plenty of snow cover but was only rolled. I
called the park office and they said they were off for a few days and may get to grooming yet Sunday. Better bring a chainsaw with your groomer because there are about three large trees down on the trails (guessing from by the looks of it from the wind storm we had a couple weeks ago). Anyway, was tolerable skiing on just old grooming(Wednesday) but "hikers" on the trails pretty much trashed some parts of the trails.

Track skiing is fair to poor. Trails have been tracked but the tracks are bare or close to it in many areas.
