Notes

Very scenic with views of the Flambeau River and a heavily timbered landscape. Portions of the upper loop and cutoffs on the east side of the lower loop are more challenging. There is a three-sided shelter on the west side of the upper loop.

First time skiing this trail. Very scenic, nice rolling terrain, and pleasantly surprised by the quality of the grooming after the freeze and thaw of last weekend. Great trail to check out.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
All trails were tracked/groomed this morning. As I suspected after cutting multiple times yesterday, the trail is very icy from the trail head on Cty Hwy W out to the beginning of Short Swing. Tracks are very shallow to almost not existent due to the extremely hard base. Skate skiing should still be good as I was able to cut the top layer. Once you get beyond that short segment, the rest of the trail system is in good condition. Tracks can be shallow in a few spots but overall they are great. It should be fairly fast skate conditions now. Grooming operations will slow down until more snow arrives so I can mix it in.
Note: Ridge Run segment remains closed

All loops were cut a minimum of twice today. After the candlelight ski event, the Short Swing loop from the trail head on County Hwy W became extremely icy. The base is rock solid. I cut it at least half a dozen times with very little penetration of the groomer teeth. I'm hoping that the temps today and tomorrow will help it soften it up. All the other loops to the northern trail head on Snuss Blvd were cut twice which turned out great. I will be back on the trail tomorrow for one more round of cutting and then i will set track. Track may be shallow and icy yet for the first portion coming out of the trail head on W but once you get beyond Short Swing it should be great conditions again.

Skied the tracks over a couple laps in this morning up through squirrel and pinery. Couldn't tell if snuss was tracked since it had some fluff over the trail. This trail systems a hidden gem with it's pristine forest, rolling hills, and quiet isolation. You will likely see more deer and turkeys than other skiers. It's a very peaceful ski, lacking the traffic you might see at more pampered destinations an hour each direction. The candlelight ski is 6-9 this evening.

This place is a true gem! I did the "figure eight" Rim Creek to Squirrel Trail to Pinery Grade today and it was fast and fantastic! The short swing was freshly groomed but further out there is about an inch of light fluffy snow which makes the skate deck fast. The deck can be a little narrow in spots and there is substantial animal activity in one small section on Squirrel trail but overall it's just magical out there. Classic tracks were set and looked good for most of the trail as well. If you like to ski with no crowds in a gorgeous setting, I highly recommend Flambeau Hills!

Trails seemed to be in good condition when my husband and I skied this past Sunday afternoon. My concern was that some parts of the tracks didn't seem very deep and some of the downhills were not tracked at all. I am not a real experienced skier so I had a few wipeouts when I lost the track. We really enjoy the trails on the Flambeau. It is absolutely beautiful!

The Short Swing loop was double cut and then tracked this morning in preparation for the candlelight ski event coming up this Saturday Feb 1st. It is in excellent condition. All the other loops that were groomed this last Friday I did not groom due to the almost nonexistent use over the weekend. Early mornings have been great skiing but conditions slow as the temperatures rise lately. Great conditions overall for the Flambeau Hills.

Trails were all packed/rolled today after the fresh 4 inches of snow. The plan is to have someone groom tomorrow prior to the weekend since I am unable to.

Trails were packed and rolled on Sunday after the 5 inches of fresh snow Saturday. I let it freeze Monday. Today I cut and groomed/tracked all the loops except the two alternates on the Rim Creek loop. The alternates are packed/rolled and definitely skiable. Overall the trails are in great condition. Things might be a little soft at first but should firm up nicely by tomorrow. Note: Ridge Run Loop Closed.

Excellent day skiing - sunny and rolling hills. Did the "figure 8" - Rim creek loop, Pinery grade, Squirrel (the best rolling section). All trails were rolled from weekend storm, 1"-2" of fluff on top, no track set. Not fast but awesome. Lots of deer tracks, no elk.
