Notes

Very scenic with views of the Flambeau River and a heavily timbered landscape. Portions of the upper loop and cutoffs on the east side of the lower loop are more challenging. There is a three-sided shelter on the west side of the upper loop.

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Trails were packed and rolled on Sunday after the 5 inches of fresh snow Saturday. I let it freeze Monday. Today I cut and groomed/tracked all the loops except the two alternates on the Rim Creek loop. The alternates are packed/rolled and definitely skiable. Overall the trails are in great condition. Things might be a little soft at first but should firm up nicely by tomorrow. Note: Ridge Run Loop Closed.

Excellent day skiing - sunny and rolling hills. Did the "figure 8" - Rim creek loop, Pinery grade, Squirrel (the best rolling section). All trails were rolled from weekend storm, 1"-2" of fluff on top, no track set. Not fast but awesome. Lots of deer tracks, no elk.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
After the last two smalls snows, i made it out to groom today to mix in the fresh snow with the old base. The intention was to fill in the ruts and holes and it worked out great with the exception of only a couple small spots on the Rim Creek loop that still have some small ruts. Everything was cut twice today and widened to bring in as much snow as possible. The plan is to groom after next snowfall. Trails are in great shape today! Take advantage of it if you can before the next snow storm.
Note: Ridge Run loop closed remainder of year.

Skied Rim Creek short loop from southern parking lot. 2-3 inches of snow on trail, enough to fill the tracks. Slow skating but nice to be out skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Made another round of grooming this morning to clear debris after the high winds the other night. Only one pass on all loops to help level out some spots. The southern portion that includes Short Swing, Rim Creek, Squirrel Tail, and Pinery Grade are in good shape with the exception of a few spots with ruts still. The Snuss section heading north is in fair to good condition. It is double tracked but some spots where the trail is skinnier it was covered up by the returning pass. Pelican loop is in good condition. Grooming will slow down until we get more snow.

Rim Creek (and the alternate loops), Squirrel Tail, and Pinery Grade were cut and tracked again today. These loops are in good condition but still have a couple spots with shallow ruts from the slush last week The Pelican Loop was cut twice and then tracked. It's in fair to good condition with some ruts and uneven areas. A couple more cuts and it will smooth out nicely; especially if we get a little more snow. The Snuss Trail is in fair condition. There are some ruts and the edges have some open/bare spots from all the water and warm temps previously. I did cut it twice today but no track was put down due to the conditions. It will need some significant snow to level it out and cover everything up. Short Swing was groomed this last Friday and is still in good shape. If conditions allow, I will attempt to groom again before the weekend to smooth things out some more. Track seems to be good but the deck for skate is a little on the soft side.
Note: The Ridge Run segment continues to be closed and will be for the remainder of the season.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
After packing and rolling yesterday on all loops, I was able to groom the southern half of the trail system. Short Swing, Squirrel Tail, Rim Creek, and Pinery Grade have all been cut twice and groomed/tracked. There are a few slushy areas with some ruts so use caution. For the most part, these loops are in good condition. A little more snow and they will be in great shape. The alternate loops off of Rim Creek are packed but not groomed. In the northern portion Snuss and Pelican loops have too much standing water and slush to get the machine back there to groom. These loops will need to freeze down more after packing yesterday. There are even bare ground areas from the water washing and melting away the snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
All loops were packed today after the recent snow. The trails are extremely soft and with the warm temperatures they are in poor condition. Many areas have standing water and after pulling the roller with the UTV, some spots have deep ruts in the slush. It will need to freeze very hard to get the water and slush frozen and packed down. I attempted to pull the groomer today but with the wet heavy snow it just was too much and it did not turn out well. I will try again in the morning to groom a loop or two and see how it turns out. There is also a lot of low hanging branches and debris in the trail after the recent storm.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Trail conditions are very poor after the large amount of rain and high temperatures the last few days. I have not groomed or rolled since Dec 20. I will be getting the grooming machine back today. Due to the timing and current freezing rain/snow that is hitting us, it may not be fully groomed until after the New Year.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Our grooming machine is still being worked on as it is still having mechanical issues. I was able to get out early this morning and roll the northern portion of the trail system which hasn't been packed at all this season so far. The base is thick but soft. Once I get our groomer back the trails will be in great shape. All trails have been packed now and are open to skiing with the exception of Ridge Run. That small segment will remain closed for the season due to heavy storm damage. Use caution on some of the hills as the snowmobile I used to roll this morning left some ruts. As long as everything goes to plan, the trails will be groomed before the weekend following Christmas. Thank you for your patience.
