New Snow: 2-3 in, Packed Base: 1-4+ in. Bob reports that he thought he saw Santa go by at about 2AM this morning. He and Julie followed him to Pincushion, and found that all the trails were freshly groomed for Christmas Morning. Merry Christmas to everyone and enjoy the day.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Trails were rolled and tracked. Wide trails and lots of room for spacing. A bit better for classic than skating as the snow was a bit sticky and a few of the skate tracks were bottoming out. Beautiful day with lots of fluffy snow coming down.

I skied Lower and Upper Snowman and West Overlook trails. They are what is groomed now, with a good deep classic track. I had good kick with blue wax, glide ok. Skate deck is rolled on these trails but still quite soft, as it has not set up yet. Snow cover is pretty good with a few light grass/ice spots you can avoid on Snowman. West Overlook mostly good but with a few exposed ice patches.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Thanks and congrats to the trail groomers for the excellent track setting. I skied Pincushion Mountain Loop (pictures), then North Advanced to Canyon Curves to Upper and Lower Snowman and West Overlook. All tracks were good, with good snowcover. I did not encounter rocks, dirt, roots or bare spots except minor grass leaving the start area. Air temp was about 27° when I started. Blue kick wax with a little purple worked well.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
New Snow Last 24 Hours: 5-6", New Snow Last 7 Days: 15-18", Packed Base: 4-6". We received a generous second helping of snowfall yesterday, and all trails in the system are planned to be groomed for skate and classic by tomorrow morning. Green trails (Upper and Lower Snowman, West and East Overlook) were groomed earlier this morning and are in excellent shape for skate and classic skiing. Conditions should be excellent for skiing for the next few days.

Firsthand: Classic Observation
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I skied all but the first .5k of North Advanced Loop as well as the uphill legs of Lower and Upper Snowman. Conditions were excellent. Tracks were well packed and set. Skate deck is still a little soft and uneven. Hilfiker is groomed although I didn't ski it. Ole Hyvaa and Canyon Curves are not groomed. Some small patches of grass poking through at lower elevations. Thanks to the grooming crew for their excellent work getting the system in such great condition early in the season!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We received about a foot of new snow over the weekend. All of the green trails have been compacted with the Pisten Bully and there is a track set on Lower Snowman. Work will continue through the week to complete Pisten Bully grooming of the remaining trails, expected to be completed by Friday. Snow is a bit thin in lower elevations (at the bottom of the Pincushion loop) so use caution.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Hurray! We received about a foot of fluffy new snow yesterday, so skiing season is about to begin. The winds are still gusting to 40+ MPH and as a result we expect to find post-blizzard drifting and downed trees throughout the trails. Grooming plan: We'll be cleaning up today and Bob is planning a full system groom tonight with the Pisten Bully.
