Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Trails in minimal conditions. Covered as of now with 36 degree temperatures. There are areas of bare ground in spots, however tracks are still visible. Rain Thursday to today didn't help. Need much more snow in order to re-groom trails.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Navarino only has a snow base of around 5". Logging activities have closed the north sections of the Red and Yellow ski trail. This should wrap up in the next week or two. Ski trails have a base with some oak leaves in spots. Grooming will resume after the next snowfall. Navarino Wildlife Area is a multi-use property. Please note that staff has put up signage to help direct walkers, snowshoers and dogs to the snowshoe trail system, rather than the main ski trail system. Dogs are not allowed on cross-country ski trails, however they are allowed on the walking and snowshoe trails which are also packed. Staff has observed lots more use of the trails and property over the last several months as everyone enjoys getting back to nature.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
First ski at Navarino. What a cool place! Very pretty place to ski. The trails are quite wide, wind through great, unique scenery, and has some nice rolling hills. I saw no signage asking hikers to stay off groomed trails, and I encountered at least 25 hikers on the trails. As a skier, I was very much in the minority - I only saw 2 other skiers in 2 hours. I also ran across a section of trail that apparently doubles as a road (pic with tire tracks). I would not recommend this trail to anyone looking for clean skiing trails. But if you've got a pair of rock skis, don't mind skiing amongst hikers, and want to check out some cool scenery (and apparently lots of cool birds), go for it! All in all, I had a great time getting out for a New Years Navarino ski. Even found a few hundred yards of virgin groomed snow :).

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
10+ miles of ross-country ski trails are packed and tracked on Navarino. We didn't receive as much snow as predicted, so although there is a base it is thin in sections. Snow is dry and powdery, needs to freeze hard tonight. Rentals are available, nature center will be closed on January 1st.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Ski trails were packed Monday. Snowshoe and walking trails are also ready with new signage for this year. Additional snowfall could lead grooming to pack and likely track the trails.
