Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 18 to 27 of 28    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Friday, January 6, 2023
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic skied the green and orange loops this afternoon and tracks were set and trails groomed. There was a downed tree along the south side of the green loop in the woods where grooming/tracks aren't set but only for a few feet.
Note: Read on Anoka parks website the wooded trails will be closing starting Jan 9th to remove Emerald Ash Borer trees but doesn't state when they'll be back open.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Plenty of snow, but felt like they are mid-groom. Wide set corduroy grooming that your skis can fit in, but uneven with machine tracks in the middle of the deck. No tracks set yet. Was slow going, but a beautiful night to be out.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
They were out rolling the snow to pack it down. No tracks and the snow is soft allowing very mild drop into the snow. The trails are otherwise beautiful with all the snow covered trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied late until about dusk. I was really surprised how good conditions were. West of the club house the tracks were clear and in good condition. In the woods there was a fair amount of leaves, needles, a couple coyote feces. Sit back on the heels and it was fine. Super fast, double pole derby.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
I may have lower standards as I am new to the sport, but I felt there was good glide and I had my fastest time around the north (woods) loop. Some debris but I felt it was normal for being in the woods. There is a downed tree as another poster noted, but it doesn't affect much of the whole loop. I had a nice outing on the classics.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic tracks were set for the whole course and in good shape for the most part. One section on the north side had a downed tree that had not yet been cleaned up that affected about 100 yards. I did not try the skate deck as it looked like it had not been groomed or rolled for several days and had not yet been skied on after the brief snow showers last night - it felt a little icy underneath and maybe difficult to get a good edge.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Classic skied the multiuse trails + golf course. Plenty of snow, but it needs another groom, or two. I truly appreciate that they provide an area to ski, but overall it was a little rough.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Trail has been rolled but not really packed. There are no classic tracks. The trail has good snow coverage but it is very soft and uneven. It was very slow going with skin skis, almost no glide on the loose powder. The northwest portion of the multiuse trail is not groomed at all. The groomer took an unusual detour through a brushy area on the southeast side of the multiuse trail, so there are many sticks and branches poking through.

An okay classic ski in shallow skier-set tracks. Several inches of powder over a rolled, hard base. No evidence of skate skiers.

Observation
I skated the course last Sunday, but after todays snow, it doesn't appear that any trails are skate-able. I did see one set of self-blazed classic tracks.
