Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
We have a skiable trail, thanks to the great work that our groomers did earlier in the week before the thaw and the rain. Coverage is good. There are a few low-lying areas of standing water that can be easily avoided. The snow is soft, wet and slow. There was still a decent classic track over most of the parts of the trail that I skied.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Our groomers have done their usual wonderful job of laying down great tracks for both classic and freestyle skiing. I classic skied today. The classic track was in very good to excellent condition and I suspect it will all be in excellent condition by tomorrow or the next day as it firms up. I stepped into the freestyle track on several occasions. The track was soft when I freestyle skied it yesterday, but it felt much firmer today. Thanks, groomers, for your wonderful contribution to Rochester's XC skiing community!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Quarry Hill groomed for both classic and skate skiing on Thursday evening. All trails groomed except for Parkwood Hill (the north hill). Excellent trail conditions throughout.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We are struggling to groom the trails with glare ice under beautiful new snow. The snow has not bonded to the ice below making our grooming efforts very difficult. Three times we have used a roller to press the new snow into a base that can be skied and that might bond to the ice below and have achieved mixed results. Please be patient, we have already spent many hours trying to make this redeeming late snow into a wonderful skiing experience, but the conditions below are making this project very difficult. We will make classic tracks as soon as possible, but we must first establish a base that allows our grooming equipment to produce classic tracks and a skate deck.

Morning
Observation
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
Not bare ground but many stretches of solid ice. Would not recommend skiing at Quarry Hill because of the treacherous conditions.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The skate deck was refreshed this morning. The classic track is essentially nonexistent. The steep loop adjacent to the Payne Shed was closed-off of because of a large bare area. Otherwise no other bare spots on the trails. The trail to the west ball field is "boiler plate" and I couldn't do much to imporve it.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Started the morning with very firm trails, left with them starting to get softer. We still have great coverage. Classic tracks are suffering greatly.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic skiing was difficult today at Quarry Hill Park. The classic tracks are gone over more than 50% of the trail and the classic tracks have been severely degraded by the warm weather over the rest of the trail. There are a few icy patches that warrant extra caution. The skate deck is still in good shape. I would definitely recommend skate-skiing over classic skiing at Quarry Hill.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The skate deck is in excellent shape in spite of the high temperature today. I skate-skied when the temperature was well above freezing late this afternoon. In most places the track had softened, so I did not have to worry about getting a good edge. Even on the softer parts of the track, it was still pretty fast. In some of the shaded parts of the track, the snow was quite hard, bordering on icy, and a little more caution was needed--this was probably the case on 15-20% of the track that I skied. Even in the shaded section, there was good texture to set an edge on the snow, however. Classic tracks are present, but in many places are degraded or even non-existent, probably owing to the recent freeze-thaw cycles. I think that it is still worth getting out for some classic skiing. I myself am going to classic ski tomorrow at Quarry Hill. Thanks, groomers, for your outstanding work!

Afternoon

The trails were really icy and firm with some patches of slushy snow in the sun. Be careful, definitely fell a few times on turns!
