Grooming was underway shortly after 9 this morning and the snow was soft making for slower skiing. No tracks had been set and on the lakeshore loop the full coverage was shallow, I saw some ice underneath the snow and my poles hit ice all the way, I don't think it's deep enough for tracks. Deeper snow on the Oak and Prairie loops, on the Oak loop tree work had been done and there were portions of the trail that were pretty rough and full of debris. Absolutely beautiful skiing, only wish there was more of it.

Olin-Turville has a good firm, deep track in excellent shape, other than being icy. When below freezing on Thursday, it was very fast, but I could get a kick with skins. Downhills with controllable, but not for the faint of heart. When above freezing on Friday, still firm, a lot slower and more controllable, and skins still worked. A very few rocks exposed that you can easily get around. This is a wonderful, technical, intermediate trail that gets kind of scary when it's icy.

Went in with pretty low expectations but was pleasantly surprised! There were good skier-made tracks throughout the system, and foot traffic so far has mainly stayed off to the side. The trails are a nice change of pace from Elver for an easy, nature-y ski (but with enough hills and views to keep it exciting). It's great that we have this park so close to downtown. If the City of Madison tracked the trails, it would be phenomenal.
