Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 24 to 33 of 38    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Saturday, January 11, 2020
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
High wind left debris on lower portions of the trail. About one inch of new powder made conditions skiable, especially on the upper portions of the trail. There was some crust under the powder, but overall skiing was okay.

Conditions improved with increasing distance from trailhead. Much less debris and near pristine fast trail once you get out there. Kirby Hills Trail, the one with the huge hills with lots of vertical and curve, is groomed and very skiable - it's a little slick, but snowplowing is very possible if someone wants it. No problem edging on the steep climbs. It's awesome to see this epic trail segment survive and still get groomed, rather than become a memory.

Acorns and oak leaves embedded in snow under some of the oaks was the only negative. All the other 95% of the trail was fantastic. Thanks to groomer for great job eliminating ruts.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails were groomed and re-tracked today. We were able to break up a good potion of the icy top layer to set a good skate lane. There are oak leaves on portions of the trails. Per usual, we could use some more snow to help fill in the low and icy spots that formed from the previously wet weather. Most sections of the trails are in good skiing condition.

Terrible conditions. Trails were nearly all ice with a lot of debris. Surface was also uneven which made it very difficult to stay upright and certainly not enjoyable. Falling hurt on the hard surface. One lap and I was out.

Conditions were great, the groomer did a great job with the skate tracks after Monday's snow of 5-6 inches. Temperatures in the 20's created a fast skate track, have fun!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails are groomed and tracked for classical and skate skiing. There were a few wet spots with some slush today, but hopefully cooler nighttime temperatures will freeze them over. Other than that, the trails are in good to very good condition.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The trails at Spring Rapids have not been groomed for two weeks. Wet weather has led to wet and icy trails depending on the temperature/time of day. Will resume grooming with new snowfall, hopefully this week!

Skied in morning before temps warmed up. Lower section had been walked on and had debris. Upper section was very good for skating, firm with excellent glide. We met people walking on the trail and asked them not to walk on the groomed trail.
