Notes

This trail is very hilly, rolling and scenic. It winds around five different lakes, through stands of maple, aspen and balsam. There are a couple fairly steep hills requiring intermediate skiing skills. A shelter with a fire ring is located on the trail.

Good to very good conditions with no bare spots or debris in the track. Groomed and tracked this morning. 18 inches of snow in the undisturbed woods. Very scenic and use has been low so now is the time to go. Really good early season snow conditions as Rhinelander has 32 inches of snow so far this fall and we have had a bit more than that on Escanaba Trail.

Leveled and tracked 7 inches of new snow that arrived yesterday. Good to very good conditions with 20 inches of snow on the ground. Outer red loop not as smooth or level as green and yellow as just finished cutting trees there yesterday so not packed as well as other loops but still good condition.

7 -8 inches of new snow today covered all tracked areas. Will be conditioning and tracking tomorrow but will not be ready until later in the day if all goes well. To summarize, there are no tracks at this time, but leveling and tracking will occur tomorrow, Friday, with the goal of having tracks on at least two of three loops by the end of the day. I will report when tracking is completed.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Good conditions exist on the two loops I was able to groom. The yellow and the green loop, also known as the short loop and the loop around Pallette have some nice track that set up really well. The outer loop or red loop is still being cleared of trees that collapsed due to snow weight. It would be difficult to estimate when that may be cleared as it depends on what I find for trees down. I measured 14 inches of snow on the picnic table at Escanaba Research station.
