Notes

Mcnaughton Lake Trail follows old logging roads around three lakes and has very few steep hills. It is very scenic and an excellent trail for a beginner. A five and a half mile loop is groomed for skating. There is a shelter with a fire ring on the trail.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails were groomed this morning after the fresh few inches of snow. The classic loops are in great condition with very little debris. The skater's loop is in good condition. The deck is a little soft but should firm up over night to make for great conditions. The skater's loop is only open out to the warming shelter. There are a few low hanging branches to watch out for but nothing major.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Grooming operations resumed this morning. All the classic loops have been tracked. There are some uneven areas after the large amounts of snow along with a lot of debris in the trail. The walls on the edges of the trail are falling in towards the groomed portion; making it a bit higher on the outer edge of the trail. The skater's loop remains only open to the warming shelter. Overall the trails are in good condition.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The recent storm brought a large amount of snow again. With the snow came heavy winds and lots of debris in the trail. All the classic loops were packed and rolled today. The skater's loop (Red Trail) was only packed and rolled out to the warming shelter. The drifts near the lake made it impassible with the machine to even drive through. Until conditions improve, that portion of the trail will not be groomed. Grooming efforts will continue tomorrow morning.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All loops were groomed/tracked. Overall good conditions. The deck is a little soft from the new snow but should firm up nicely with a little time. The walls/edges of the trails are falling in towards the groomed portion and there are some "skinny" spots in the more heavily wooded areas.

Morning
Grooming

All loops were groomed/tracked. Overall good conditions. Trails are a little chunky but still have good track. There is still debris throughout the trail system; more so on the classic loops than the skater's loop.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All loops were groomed/tracked this morning. Skater's loop turned out great with only a little bit of debris. The classic loops, overall, are in good condition but there is a fair amount of debris from trees and limbs that fell during the recent heavy snow. The edges of the trails, especially on the classic loops, are starting to fall back into the groomed trail due to the depth of the snow. Tracks will be soft due to snow conditions but should firm up by tomorrow.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
After a morning adventure at Raven Ski Trail in fresh ungroomed powder, Joanie and I skated the 5-mile trail around McNaughton Lake, which was a bit soft with the new snow, but still a lot of fun. We then switched to our classic skis for loops on the blue and yellow trails through scenic woods with some old-growth pines. Thanks for the Monday morning grooming-it was greatly appreciated! It was day 3 of 3 of our adventure in the Minocqua area skiing the four great trails of the NHAL State Forest. It was a fantastic ski weekend and well worth the trip from the Madison area.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All loops were groomed and/or tracked. Trails are leveling out nicely. There is a little bit of light debris from the recent freezing rain. The skater's loop does have some drifting near McNaughton Lake. The tracks and skate deck are a little soft from the fresh snow yesterday. Overall the trails are in good condition.
