Notes

Mcnaughton Lake Trail follows old logging roads around three lakes and has very few steep hills. It is very scenic and an excellent trail for a beginner. A five and a half mile loop is groomed for skating. There is a shelter with a fire ring on the trail.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Joanie and I strided all the classic trails early this morning. They had been groomed Friday afternoon after several inches of snowfall. The tracks set up well overnight and we enjoyed good glide despite the single-digit temperatures. We always enjoy our ski here through a serene landscape on this gently rolling trail. Thanks for the great grooming!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skate skied the red loop first. The skate decks was soft so it was a bit of a workout. It was similar to skating on a solid deck with several inches of new snow on top. The link from the parking lot to the shelter was beginning to firm up a bit when I went back out for a second time to the shelter. However, the skaters loop from the shelter and back remained soft. I ended up skating 15 kilometers. I classic skied the green loop next. The track was solid and fast. Classic conditions were as good as they get. That added another 5 kilometers for the day.
