Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The skate deck was well packed, the classic tracks were freshly set, but the area around the classic tracks was really soft and my poles disappeared multiple times when I was there. If you go, bring poles with slightly bigger baskets.

Nicely groomed and firm skate deck and the classic tracks looked really nice too. The skate deck was holding up well without getting rutted from skating.

Classic tracks had obviously been re-set since yesterday's wind. Great clean tracks. Thanks groomers!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied this afternoon about 3:30 pm. Lots of drifting from the blowing snow. The classic tracks were practically all filled in with snow. Lots of drifting snow over the other parts of the groomed trails.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Everything was groomed again this afternoon. The skate deck was firmer than I thought it would be, but not perfect yet. A few soft spots where we had drifting. We are trying our best to get the time in to level the surface and firm up the skate deck as we battle the drifting. It's getting better, but it takes time with lighter equipment. Classic track is set throughout. There are just a few thin spots that we will get coverage on when we get the other stuff in shape.

Beautiful. All rolled and groomed. Deck is pretty firm. Even with all this snow there are some thin but not are spots.

Best coverage I've seen at UMN in the 5 or so winters I've been here. I like the two loops (but I liked the other layout as well). The deck was a little soft, but really pleasant, relaxing skiing on nice rolling terrain. Really impressive work by the groomers working with light equipment. I measured the sum total of the two loops at 3.31 miles, give or take. Hopefully the cold persists; with more snow hopefully will be good for a while.

Soft deck but good times on the skating trail, both loops. A few thin spots on the inner loop where skis went thru soft deck. Thanks to Mitch for nice grooming. Skiers: the classic tracks are on the right as you ski. Clockwise is the correct ski direction. Lots of people going the other way today.

Classic tracks are generally soft and filled in by blowing snow in places, most notably on the inner loop. The skating deck was groomed but looked a bit soft as well. Not many skiers of either persuasion were out this afternoon. Plenty of snow, so while conditions aren't ideal, it's still skiing!

Everything was groomed this morning. Skate deck is looking great and classic trans is well skied in. Enjoy before the next round of snow.
