The grooming is impeccable. Unfortunately, the drizzle created a glaze that made the trails fairly treacherous. I avoided launching myself off a cliff or into a tree, but will wait to enjoy these trails again when they are drier or softened in the sun.

New fresh snow made for absolutely great groom and track set. All trails north of Orange Lake Road are groomed and track set. Nice to see two great skiers, (David and Bob) out on the trails today. What a gorgeous day! Please get out and enjoy the trails as it won't last long.

Came out to Orange Lake Road crossing and skied north into North Suomi. It hadn't been groomed since the last snow, but it was pretty well tracked in... by deer and wolves, not skiers. Nevertheless, we skied around Doctor Loop, Balloon Loop, then came back south. On the connector back to Orange Lake Road, we got passed by the groomer, and with brand new tracks, our speed increased greatly. I've never followed the groomer before. We took pictures of each other. Look for the groomer's trail report coming up this evening. Most of North Suomi will probably be groomed.

Groomed south suomi up to the north lot. Didn't pack, did it in one pass with no problems. Track looked good, but probably soft till it sets up tonight.

Groomer had set track from south parking lot and northward but not on the loop around Little Horn Lake. That was actually more fun skiing on the fresh inch of snow! More grooming had been done on the return loop. The track along the highway under heavy pine overstory was shallow and a little icy where there was less snow. But not a problem for that short stretch and fairly level terrain. Started with special green but soon added blue. Enjoy! Winter is NOT over!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All north Suomi trails north of the Orange Lake Road are groomed and track set. 3" to 5" of fresh snow made for a good track set. Still sticks and brush from early heavy snowfall and downed trees, but all and all pretty nice.

Grooming

All of North Suomi Trails are now track set. I would say a little rough, but set. Watch out for many areas of brush and tree cutting, as they are rough. We now have a open trail and a base set. The next snow should provide us with a good trail to groom.

South Suomi had been groomed but is now hard packed and very fast. My wife took a few tumbles. Very scenic, good coverage, but quite hard. Fresh grooming or more snow needed. The north connector trail and north section have yet to be groomed.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Slowly but surely getting this mess opened up. Will need one more day of tree cutting and getting through the whole north system. I hope to start pulling a groomer through this weekend. The whole system has been either run with a snowmobile or snowshoed. Lots and lots of brush and tree branches in the trails. Estimating about 6 more downed trees to get through. Special shout out to Randy Zupan for snowshoeing, brush cutting, and sending downed tree reports.
