Trails in great condition thanks to Copper Falls State Park Staff. Classic track was super fast and gliding with ease. The skate deck looked great as well. Check out the new winter trail map obtained at the front office or using the QR code for smartphone/iPhone users. Come enjoy the wonderful trails in a gorgeous state park!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Saw many people enjoying the trails today. Groomed Meadow, Pipeline, and Red Granite Loops this afternoon with the snowmobile. The corduroy and tracks set really well with the recent lake effect snowfall. The only thin spots noticed were Pipeline West by Murphy Lake crossing a culvert and Pipeline East in the pines; both avoidable. Meadow: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic with a 10in base. Pipeline West: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic with a 4-9in base. Pipeline East: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic with a 3-8in base. Takesson: "Fair" last tracked for classic on 1/16. Vahterra: "Fair" last tracked for classic on 1/16. Red Granite: "Good" groomed for skate and snowshoe with a 3-8in base. Plan to groom Takesson and Vahterra loops on Thursday.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed Meadow, Pipeline, and Red Granite Loops today. On Wednesday the high winds blew pine needles and twigs onto the trails; members of the Friends of Copper Falls SP came out and did a great job of getting debris off of the trail. Some more blew down Thursday evening so there is a patch of pine needles on the Pipeline West leaving the North Campground, several patches of hemlock needles on the Red Granite skate trail, and a stretch of pine needles on Pipeline East just before the Ballfield lot. Recommend waxless skis if doing classic. Some of the snow that fell Tuesday was sugary, so expect some possible drifting into the tracks on the Pipeline East hills. Meadow: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic with a 10in base. Pipeline West: "Good" groomed for skate and classic with a 4-9in base. Pipeline East: "Good" groomed for skate and classic with a 3-8in base. Takesson: "Fair" last tracked for classic on Jan 16. Vahterra: "Fair" last tracked for classic on Jan 16. Red Granite: "Good" groomed for skate and snowshoe with a 3-8in base.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Conditions are now poor throughout the park. The heavy winds today brought down lots of needles, leaves, and branches. Sections of the Meadow are fair but most of the skate deck throughout rest of the park is in poor condition due to debris. Did not check classic-only trails. The Pipeline was skiable today but watchout on the downhills as blown-in snow at the bottom was considerable slower than the trail surface.

Vahterra 2: "Good" groomed for classic. Takesson 1: "Good" groomed for classic. Takesson 2: "Good" groomed for classic. Red Granite: "Good" groomed for skate and snowshoes.

Morning
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
It was not groomed but it was still snowing but the time I was skiing. The rain from yesterday exposed a few more patches of loose gravel under the skate decks on trails including red granite, pipeline and valterah.

Bare ground and gravel in the corduroy. There is occasional post-holing as well, both on the skate deck and on either side of the tracks.

Grooming Observation
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Grooming last done on Tuesday 1/5. The trails have been holding up well. As verified today, the skate deck is firm on the Pipeline and Meadow. Also verified today, the classic track remains in great shape on the Meadow, Vahterra, and Takesson loops. Grooming plan: The plan right now is to pack and groom Friday evening; an update will be posted when that is accomplished.
