Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The Pipeline Loop was freshly groomed for skate and classic today. Even with the warm temps the classic tracks held firm. The classic only trails (Vahterra and Takesson) have not been groomed recently but the tracks are firm and have held up amazingly well. The skate deck has new corduroy with no skiers on it as of later this afternoon. Copper Falls SP is a Birkie Virtual Partner and the 8k Pipeline Loop has kilometer markers along the way, a convenient way to keep track of your Birkie/Korte/Prince Hakkon race distances. Today I skied my Classic Korte with 2 Pipeline loops integrating the classic only trails (12+k each loop) and one Meadow Loop...27 enjoyable kilometers!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed Meadow and Pipeline Loops this morning. The skate deck turned out great but had to set track very shallow on Meadow and Pipeline. There will be drifts going past Loon Lake but its skiable. Tuesday skiing should be fast in the morning but skiable in the afternoon. Meadow: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic. Pipeline: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic. Vahterra: "Very Good" skied track. Takesson: "Very Good" skied track. Red Granite: "Very Good" last packed Friday Feb 18th for skate and snowshoe. Grooming plans: groom and track Meadow and Pipeline Loops on Thursday when overnight temps may dip into the teens. Will try to pack Red Granite Thursday, too. Vahterra and Takesson will be conditions specific.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied my Virtual Birkie at Copper Falls on Saturday. It was -10 overnight and 0f at a 9:30am start. Did my five passes on the Pipeline and one last pass thru the Meadow. The corduroy was firm throughout the course and at no point did I break thru. The trail was wide enough throughout and the classic tracks rode well. The Meadow and Pipeline West was perfect. Pipeline East was near perfect but the grooming was terraced for 20ft on a flat section way past the downhills...just needed one more pass with the groomer. The overall experience was perfect. The Meadow reminded me of the Birkie start/Rosie’s field, the big hills reminded me of the power line sections, and the final uphill before Loon Lake reminded me of B-hill. The sections between were very scenic with wooded views of bogs and ponds. I encountered 20+ skiers throughout the day and they were all good about distancing. The 8km Pipeline loop was perfect regarding a lack of aid stations, each time I needed a resupply I was nearing the parking lot where I had a stash. I suggest adding a bench somewhere just after the campground section because this is where some cramping was occurring and it was about the halfway mark. The course was well marked for distances and caution areas, kudos to the volunteers for marking this course! While I missed the camaraderie of a traditional Birkie, I appreciate the opportunity to continue this tradition at a beautiful local trail system where I felt safe the entire experience. Kudos to the park staff and volunteers for the excellent work on this wonderful trail system!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed Meadow, Pipeline, and Red Granite today. All trails are in excellent shape, tracks were reset on the Pipeline - the marked route for the Virtual Birkie this week. The Meadow and Pipeline Loops looked immaculate at the end grooming tonight, they are both firm with a 14-20in base. Meadow: "Excellent" groomed and tracked for skate and classic, reset track today. Pipeline: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic, reset track today. Vahterra: "Excellent" last tracked for classic Feb 9th. Takesson: "Excellent" last tracked for classic Feb 9th. Red Granite: "Excellent" groomed for skate and snowshoe. Upcoming grooming plans: Meadow/Pipeline/Red Granite Monday Feb 22nd and Friday Feb 26th. Classic-only trails will be dependent on conditions as tracks have been holding up well.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Skied at noon and started on the Pipeline trail which had recently been groomed so conditions were excellent. The Vahtera and Takesson trails were in good shape although the classic track was a bit shallow in areas. The skate lane corduroy everywhere looked great. The 12.5 k of trails wind through some beautiful hemlocks and there were more animal tracks than pole plants on the trail. Very little litter on the trails. Great trail to check out. Cooper Falls is a virtual Birkie sponsor.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed Meadow, Pipeline, and Red Granite with the snowmobile today. All trails are in excellent shape, best conditions all year. Combined with the pleasant temps, it should be an awesome week for skiing! Meadow: "Excellent" groomed and tracked for skate and classic, reset track today. Pipeline: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic, track is in good to very-good condition so it was left as-is. Vahterra: "Excellent" last tracked for classic Feb 9th. Takesson: "Excellent" last tracked for classic Feb 9th. Red Granite: "Excellent" groomed for skate and snowshoe. Upcoming grooming plans: groom all trails Friday Feb 19th; most trails Monday Feb 22nd, and most trails Friday Feb 26th.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed and tracked Vahterra; spot groomed Pipeline West and Red Granite today. Takesson was too drifty and soft to set a decent track. Recommend using Vahterra or Pipeline West to avoid the wind in these cold temps. Conditions are generally soft everywhere but still a decent skate deck.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed and tracked Pipeline and Meadow. Rolled Red Granite, Takesson, and Vahterra. This is the best skate deck and track I've seen on Pipeline in years, especially by Murphy Lake. There's a 12-18in base throughout most of the park. Expect some possible drifting in places. Conditions on Takesson and Vahterra were too soft to track with a snowmobile on the big hills, so that will wait until next early week.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed Meadow, Red Granite, and Pipeline with the snowmobile and small ginzu, as the UTV is still being fixed. Tracks were still good, so that was left alone. Wednesday should be some fantastic skiing, especially before the temps dip. Volunteers from the Friends of Copper Falls SP spent today pruning trails, they did some excellent work. An otter-sled was donated to the park, just what we needed for filling some holes. It has already made a big impact on smoothing sections of Pipeline West near Murphy Lake. Meadow: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic. Pipeline West: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic. Pipeline East: "Excellent" groomed for skate and classic. Takesson: "Excellent" tracked for classic. Vahterra: "Excellent" tracked for classic. Red Granite: "Excellent" groomed for skate and snowshoe.
