Thank you groomers! Garden,Bog, and all of South Wirth was great skate skiing at 1:00 today, during the heat wave of the day. Love having the Garden and Bog back to old pattern from a few years ago... especially the Garden. Thank-you!!

Skied most of South Wirth. The first hill on Anwatin was a little hairy very slick and some dirt to avoid at the bottom. All trails have dirt patches that can throw off your skating rhythm and no classic tracks, but there on average is 2-3 inches of firm base. Someone shoveled snow under the highway 55 tunnel, that is appreciated.

I skied the bit on and around Wirth Lake which was pretty good although very icy in a few spots. The Antwin trail had some gravel and spots to be careful of and a lot of walking tracks. Bog trail was similar. Watch out for a man hole cover on the Easy section of the bog. I skied right over it. But overall fun and fast and remarkable with so little snow!

Really great ski on bog, butler, and wirth lake loops around lunchtime today. Bog trails were best of bunch and in very good condition throughout. Butler and wirth lake were also good, but there were lots of walker footprints which made portions of the trails bumpy. No classic tracks on any of the trails. I rate this for B skis primarily because of some exposed rocks I noticed on the uphills on the anwatin loop, and especially because there is an exposed curb at the bottom of the second to last hill on the anwatin loop (the hill that leads to the bird sanctuary parking lot). I was able to avoid it, but be careful.

It looks fantastic all the way to Wirth Lake and back. The Quaking is also good. Go have fun and cover yourself.

Fresh grooming this morning for skate skiing the natural snow trails between the Trailhead and Glenwood Ave - even better than yesterday! Still occasional rocks and sticks to contend with, and a few stretches of ice on Wirth Lake, but really great skate ski conditions. Butler and Bog loops have not been re-groomed as of this morning but still skied quite well - good balance practice. No classic tracks anywhere on these trails yet due to thin snow.

Evening

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Fun conditions on Skyline and Tornado Alley. There is not any snow under the Hwy 55 bridge, so you'll have to walk in that area. Other than that, Quaking Bog and Wedding Hill trail were in fairly good condition (but with litter). Not too much worry about base depth on any of the trails that I saw, but there is the occasional root or stick you gotta watch out for.

Skied from Wirth beach through much of South Wirth before heading to Chain of Lakes. Most of the trail was well covered, and well skied in. Many of the uphills are a bit thin, with a few of the steepest climbs having a few amount of debris. Also beware of the curb as you descend to Eloise Butler parking lot, it was quite exposed today! Rock skis still for now, but an enjoyable ski none the less. Bridge of 394 is snow covered, but very dirty and super slow.

Super fun skating all of the South Wirth trails - Bog, Butler, Jar Hill, Wirth Lake, 394 trail, Brownie Lake, JD Rivers. Groomed well for skate skiing. No classic tracks. I used rock skis, there are some rocks, debris, etc. to watch out for, but very nice skiing on the natural snow. Park at Wirth Beach on Glenwood. The Eloise Butler trail starts uphill in front of the pavilion (reverse direction from last year).

Afternoon

[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The JD Rivers loop and Tornado Alley out-and-back were in good shape for skate skiing - just enough snow to avoid scraping asphalt or curbs. I used B skis without issue. Classic tracks appeared to be intermittent. The trails south of Glenwood Ave did not appear to be groomed - not quite enough snow yet. Also, there is no snow under the Highway 55 bridge, so it is necessary to take off skis to get between Tornado Alley and the JD Rivers loop. You can park at Glenwood Beach and get right on the groomed trail, which is a great alternate parking option in case the lots by the Trailhead are full.
