Trail Detail
Notes
These classic single-tracked trails are set in the remote boreal forest of Isabella on Superior National Forest. The trails wind along lakeshores and through spruce/tamarack bogs and old pine, fir, aspen, and birch forests. Skiers can experience a wilderness character on mostly beginner to intermediate loops. Trailhead located at Flathorn Picnic area.Trail Reports

Doug, Cindy, John, and I skied 2>1>18>19>20>22>12>17>3. The trails had 1 or more inches of light fluffy snow on top of the tracks. But were easy to ski through. We took a detour and went out onto Lake Gegoka only to discover the heavy slush under the 2 feet of fluffy snow cover. Do not recommend skiing on the lake, it appears there is slushy areas throughout the lake. Beautiful day on the trails flushed on grouse out of the snow, as we skied close to its cover. That produced a bit of a screech from me.

Lovely ski through beautiful pines. My second time on these trails. A bit of snow covered the trails but it was still smooth skiing.

Just returned from a three hour ski with my husband. We continue to be amazed at how near-perfect the trails are and how incredibly beautiful the forest is right now. Thanks, Gary, for all your support in grooming and enduring the start-up challenges associated with creating a new non-profit, charged with protecting, maintaining, and promoting this unique wilderness trail system.

Another inch of snow fell on Friday night into Saturday morning, all trails are set with tracks, trails 19 to 23, and 19 to 23 were set with tracks on Saturday. We skied the trails that were tracked on Thursday but got the extra inch of snow on Saturday morning and they were good except in the small portion of the trails system that had exposure to wind, where the tracks were nonexistent for a short stretch. We had another extraordinary afternoon on these trails experiencing the beauty of the wilderness that surrounds the trail system.
