Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 92 to 101 of 198    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied some natural snow trails and some man made trails. The natural trails were nicely groomed - but beware of thin spots. The man made trails were as to be expected. Quite a few people out getting their ski on before the cold.

Skated the outer loops today including the Hill trail and the Nature Center spur. Packed but no track. Slow and "squeaky", but nice to escape the man made trail, which hadn't been groomed. Swix LF4 on my Atomics. Did I mention "slow".

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The 5K loop with human made snow is in excellent shape. Tracks are firm and slow. No need for 1814 or Klister; I used skigo violet and ran up all the hills in the track. I also skied the Lake trail, this had been packed but no tracks set. Full coverage, no bare spots and only a few places where dirt was visible. However, the coverage is thin... my pole tips often hit the frozen ground through the snow. But it was wonderful to get off the hamster wheel.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Classic skied from 12-2 today. Lots of snow and very few people. I was hoping to stride on the natural snow trails given the new snow but they weren't tracked; they were groomed for skating. The manmade loop was groomed and tracked. Hopefully tracks will be set on natural snow so we can enjoy it, before next melt down.

Excellent conditions recently groomed but predictably slow, at least for me and my wax. It was 4-5 degrees with little wind and sunny. No surprise there were few people on the trail with the cold. But despite my anticipation that I would not make it without freezing my hands, I made it with only one middle finger starting to go numb after one full circuit and an abbreviated 2nd one skipping Scenic Foothills and Boulder Ridge. I used FastWax Teal LF.

The 5K loop was groomed overnight, before a dusting of snow. Tracks solid but slow where wind blown powder collected. A few hardy souls braved the low windchills.
