Trail Reports

2018-2019 season
Reports 42 to 46 of 46    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Classic trail/track conditions are a mixed bag. Some sections are good and some are not so good. Wooded sections have a lot of tree debris (leaves and twigs) from recent winds. With thin base, some sections are worn down to dirt.
In one section of about 1 KM, both classic tracks were damaged by walking. Recommend rock skis.

[ Rock skis ]
Skied on classic wooded trails in morning before the Polar Vortex winds and cold started getting worse. Tracks firmed up nicely over night from yesterday's grooming. Tracks are very skiable. Fun to be skiing on natural snow at Lebanon Hills. Although majority of trails/tracks are in good shape, I recommend rock skis because of thin base and areas where grooming equipment hit dirt bottom. Tracks in open areas have wind blown snow in them. Park is doing some restoration work, so there are a few trail areas with debris from cutting operations.

[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Considering the amount (4-5 inches) of new snow and no existing base previously, the groomers did a commendable job grooming trails and setting down double classic tracks on the trails east of Pilot Knob. Unfortunately, the tracks on the whole long loop on the east side were damaged quite a bit by large animal tracks after the grooming. There is not much base under the soft tracks in some portions of the trail. Some portions of the trail are very good. Because of the thinness and dirt in some parts, I would recommend rock skis.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The groomer started this morning and is moving his way through Lebanon Hills east to west with the PistenBully packing and setting tracks. Trail conditions range from good to poor, with segments in open areas thin with icy base already coming through.

In the neighborhood for an appointment, so stopped by for a quick ski. I only had time to ski trails near the visitor center, as darkness approached. Ski trails have been packed, but they are not tracked. Rock ski conditions, with thin cover and debris.
