Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
The trails had just been groomed when I skated late morning and there was still a good snow base. Time of day was perfect- I had not expected that they would be in such good condition once you get away from the parking lot area. I stayed on the Sugarbush/Sky/Lake and Nature trails but Grimm and King had been groomed as well. Even the smaller hills were super fast today. Southern exposures were softening up quickly as I left so not sure what it will be like tomorrow. There is a classic track set, looked fast and could get icy.

Just about perfect conditions this morning though don’t know how long it will last. Skied all trails, skate deck was nicely groomed and the classic tracks looked better than they have in a long time. Was done by 11 but sunny spots on the trails were already getting soft so might be softer as the day gets warmer.

Cold but nice. Groomed yesterday but holding up fine. Classic tracks were great. I was the only car in lot at 8am so if you like solitude with an occasional owl swooping over head check it out. Just skied Lake Sky and Sugar Bush.

All trail segments are open but good would be an overstatement for condition. Lots of the areas of the classic track where windswept or outright missing. Skate deck look pretty good overall.

Very fast for conditions. Groomed from yesterday so it was a little uneven and hard. Parts of Grimm were windswept with drifting on north side. Should be better tomorrow. Classic tracks good.

Yesterday’s grooming but it was fine. Hopped in track a few times and that was fine also. I think what happened is the frost on trees fell on trails creating about a half inch of fluff which was slow. In the open areas no fluff.

Skied King and Grimm around sunset. Both were were rolled but were quite soft with a lot of loose snow. Skier set track in places, but not great. Slow going.

Everything was rolled once but only Sky and Sugar Bush were groomed for skate. No classic set. Tomorrow should be better.

Sheer ice on downhills. Probably the most dangerous trail conditions I have skied. There were a few good sections, and the off-piste crust was great. But the trails were so icy in places that skiing was hazardous.

Curiosity got the best of me and I went out on the King trail and the part of the Sugar Bush trail leading out to the King trail. Overall I'd rate the trails as in poor conditions due to iciness, although the conditions were extremely variable, with much in fair to good condition with a few sections that were essentially unskiable. At some point I stopped skiing down the bigger hills of the King trail because they were too icy, and started walking down off-trail. There were also some spots in low-lying areas with bare ground, although avoidable, and one short segment of the trail that was mostly solid ice over otherwise exposed ground. The Sugar Bush trail seemed in better condition, although I didn't ski it all. The park report said they groomed the trail shortly after I was done.
