Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Lake Elmo designated ski trails have been groomed. Ski trails have thin coverage with icy spots and debris. They are considered to be in poor to fair condition.

I skied between 1:00 - 2:00 PM after the light snow. First I ventured onto the Savanah and North loop trails. Icy and thin. Not recommended. Then I jumped out onto the lake and it was fairly decent despite all the snowmobile and ATV tracks. If it hadn't been so gray and flat, I probably would have looped the whole lake. But instead I headed south and jumped on the Hills loop between 10e and 11e and then skied back to the Nordic Center. The Hill loop (at least the part I skied) was decent. Still icy under the new layer of snow, but skiable and good coverage. It doesn't look like they've been able to groom since just after the rain/ice event so there are lots of ruts under the new snow. I think I'll find other things to do until we get at least and inch or two of new snow.

As of 5:00 pm, most of the trails were very icy -- in fact, "scary" might be an apt description. It's hard to imagine the trails will be good again anytime soon.

Don't bother, the slush has turned into ice and ruts, some sections may improve with grooming, but I wouldn't count on it.

Very icy! Can't recommend skiing there until there is more snow and/or grooming.

Turning into rough boiler plate ice. Trails had been rolled so the parallel grooves added to the challenge of staying upright. Not sure if there is enough base for the groomers to renovate the trails until it snows again.

Icy and dicey. Very sketchy this morning. Skated everything on east side and it was all icy. If you’ve wondered what it’d be like to ski a lake that has hills, this is your chance!

Slushy parts and slow from the rain/warmth but still lots of of snow! Some leafy and thin parts going down some hills and in areas with not lots of tree coverage. Overall, really great conditions!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trails packed by machine, no classic tracks. Very wet snow. Full coverage, so good skis could be used, but why? Occasional machine set shallow classic tracks but I avoided them because they were wet and I skied on skins. Almost no glide, but a skater passed me and he seemed to be doing ok.

Lake Elmo ski trails were packed today. Trails are very slushy and wet due to the rain and warmer temperatures. There is also debris is present. Conditions are considered poor.
