Skied skyline, Tornado alley, Wirth Lake Trail, and the snowmaking loop. Things are generally very soft with a few icy spots. Coverage is generally good but there were a couple spots on the natural trails that requires stepping around. Skyline was groomed with a new classic track and a couple feet of skate deck around 2pm. I was the first skater behind it and was sinking in quite a bit. The uphills in the snowmaking loop were extremely soft. Take Devil’s Drop slowly, it is somehow both soft and icy.

Spring skiing is the best! Fantastic conditions on the roughly 5K man-made loop this morning with lots of folks hard at work on their virtual Birkie. Starting to get a little slow on the uphills by 10am, but overall incredible conditions considering the bright sunshine and 40 degree temps.

Started with Bridge and Skyline around 9am. Where the snow had softened, conditions were pretty good. Spots that were pretty rutted and still firm from overnight were challenging and a few spots are getting pretty icy. Then I jumped over to the artificial snow trail for a loop and conditions were great! A couple uphills were starting to get a little mashed.

Another great pre-dawn ski this morning in Wirth North. The natural trails have held up well - groomed Thursday night, they were hard and fast. Significantly more ice today than yesterday, and looking at the temps today I probably won't venture out on the trails again tomorrow. For the most part icey spots are easy to see (even in the dark) and I was able to use my good skis with no damage. A few notes - tornado alley near the golf course where the ski trail diverges from the bike trail (just before the bike trail crosses the RR tracks) there is a big chunk of exposed cement. On the bridge trail, the part that forms a circle between the bridge to tornado alley and Skyline, there is a rock or stump as you head toward the bridge (south) that looks like it would cause damage if you hit it. Otherwise the usual spots are icy - some pretty bad. Overall, though, worth getting out there before it's gone!

Skied the snowmaking loop plus Judy loop around lunchtime both today and yesterday. Similar conditions both days. Snow is a little soft, but I was still getting plenty of glide. Mashed potatoes at top of hills. The standout both days was the Judy loop, which is holding up really well.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the state of the natural trails this morning. Great grooming work on Wednesday night. Trails were smooth and quite fast. I did Bridge, Tornado Alley, Skyline, and JD Rivers. Great coverage throughout - no bare ground or major debris. There was ice early this morning, which will probably stick around for a bit. Icy spots were easy to see and us caution on, but for the most part it was awesome. Also did snowmaking loop, which is great. A few harder spots but nothing bad. Trail 18 is still in an ambiguous state - not sure if the tubing hill is meant to be a bi-directional connector up to the natural trails, but that's how I treated it.

At 8 am conditions were very good on all the groomed trails. The non-groomed trails were solid ice! Snow on groomed trails granular from thaw and refreeze and by 9:30 uphills starting to turn to mashed potatoes.

I ventured out on the natural trails this morning. I was expecting it to be mushy but it was solid ice (I guess the breeze was cool enough). I doubled polled down tornado alley and hit the snowmaking loop, which was awesome. Still enough depth on the natural snow, but very dirty and icy.

HS race going on, so I skied the golf course. Conditions were the best I’ve experienced on the golf course. Great pack, tracks were solid. Great grip and glide. Delightful day! Hope the warm weather doesn’t ruin the snow too much.

There were high school races at Wirth today but they didn't interfere with my planned route, nor I with theirs. I started at 11 with one loop on the snowmaking loop, and the Judy Loop, then across the bridge (via trail 18, which was no problem) to the natural trails all the way to 394 and back. All trails were good to excellent, albeit getting a little slow in the warmth--or was it just me? By the time I got back the high school races were winding down, so I did another loop on the snowmaking trails, which I was surprised to find were just as good at the end of the day as they had been when I left them four hours earlier, in spite of the warmth--and faster than the natural trails. That place is amazing! I wish I had signed up for the virtual Birkie, because I figure that with the trails I doubled I put in enough K's to have done it.
