Firsthand: Classic

Nice, solid tracks on the made-snow loop. Could have used tracks for the kids on the downhill from Green Meadow and all the way down the hill to the lower stadium (that series has a track most of the way but it disappeared for a short section). But otherwise it was great- no icy spots and uphills were solid.

Classic tracks on the snowmaking loop were excellent! Skate trail looked very good. Great to see so many people out enjoying the snow and above zero temps while we have them!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
The made-snow loop was slightly softer midday but still pretty firm. And the uphills were solid with no real mush. Things slowed down a little once temps hit the 20s. Across the road, there was enough snow on the skate deck to do the full loop. Only a few spots of reeds poking through, and then the uphill in the back (E side) was very grassy/dirty, but otherwise it was quite clean. Could use a few more inches, and there were no classic tracks, but just fine for B skate skis.

[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Skied at 8:00 am this morning on a perfectly groomed track. The manmade loop is still 2.25K (start/finish area, Green Meadow, coaches' corner), but there is some more grooming just to the south of the start/finish area for lessons. With the cold weather in the next few days, I wouldn't be surprised to see more kilometers added soon. Special thanks to the grooming crew: immaculate stuff.

JD Gardens, tornado alley and front 9 are rolled and good for B skis or rock skis. No classic tracks laid. Have to take off skis and walk under bridge.

Wirth man made snow was perfect for skating today. Classic tracks looked great (only used for double polling). Saw some people exiting from the natural snow area across the parkway - not sure if there’s enough snow or not. Layer up and get on out there! #XCskiLife.

Excellent conditions for skate And classic skiing on the man-made snow loop! No ice whatsoever; easy to get an edge and kick.

Night
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Finally got back out after a warm vacation and the shot of chill from the wind was no joke. Man-made trails seemed to be in great condition even with the high usage and still lots of people out in the evening/night (7pm). The base was still solid but the frigid conditions with the rain a few days ago got a bit of icy build up in places. Nothing to worry about but I was slipping around a bit more. There is a big icy bump on the shortcut on that ridgeline hill, difficult to see at night, I tumbled down slowly trying to catch a break. Easily can use your good skis. Good windy night for hill repeats. Great to see all the Trail Kids out enjoying the great outdoors.

The made-snow loop was in great shape today. The groomers had taken care of the fresh snow and the icy crust from the rain. The deck was ever so slightly icy when we started, but the sun was out and softened it up a bit (as did the many skiers out despite the wind). The stadium was wind-blasted but very solid. The tracks felt firm enough, but not icy at all. Uphills were still solid with little to no mash. Downhills were speedy but with zero ice. A great day to ski as long as you stayed warm in the wind!

Green meadow is open now which makes for a longer loop. The ice was ground up into ice crystals, a little mashed potatoes up hills, but not too much. There’s a solid ice base underneath so a few places slide here and there (do I need to sharpen my poles?). But very skiable, great safe downhills. Not the slick ice we would have seen years ago. We’re so lucky to have Wirth!
