Groomed this morning but classic track was just skied in. Lots of folks out there. Skate deck was soft.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Highland received a fresh 3-4 inches of the good stuff yesterday and was rolled and groomed this morning. We will let the skiers work their magic and be back on Tuesday to groom again. Enjoy the beautiful day.

Good coverage with hard packed fast tracks on the straights but tracks on curves and top of hills are disappearing or gone. Nothing to watch out for but a few leaves and descents are faster than usual so turns at the bottom are ...interesting for us newer skiers! At 15F, started on Rex green and quickly switched to blue which was a decent kick until it wore off and then it was a slip and slide.

Windy but very skiable skate bed. Just a few spots with avoidable grass poking thru a bit and 1-2 icy stretches.

Enjoyed a newly groomed skate deck that did a great job of evening out the terrain from the last snowfall. Coverage also enhanced in many places from last week with very few bare spots now present. The sun was out, I was skijoring with my dog 10 minutes from my home, for free. What an amazing perk of living in St. Paul. Thanks to St. Paul Parks and Recreation and a special thanks to the groomers.
Note to skijorers: Please be diligent about picking up after your dog. I have picked up stray piles and bags my last two skis. It won't take much for them to reconsider allowing skijoring if they find dog poop all over the course in the spring. A good trick is to use a waist-strap water bottle holder and leave the water bottle at home. Put bags in the side pocket and poop fits nicely in where the bottle would go.

Skate deck was recently groomed and in great condition. Classic tracks were a bit shallow and nonexistent on the sharp curves. Leaves and other tree debris was mostly gone. So all I all, classic tracks were rated 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Trail has gotten a lot of use in the last 24 hours. The track breaks up or disappears in many places, and the bit of snow that fell yesterday has been compressed and polished to a very firm base. It's still skiable, but conditions varied from fair to very good. The skating deck appeared fast; hundreds of people must have skied it in the last day. I expect conditions for classic skiing to continue to deteriorate until we get more snow.

The light dusting of snow made for very good to excellent skiing in the hard packed, well-defined, icy tracks with my wax skis. I could ski up the hills without herringboning and going down I could safely stay in the tracks. There's hard ice underneath which made my poles slip at times, but no bare or solid ice spots. Get out before the sun and warmer temps ruin things.

Rough go on the skate deck. Extremely icy, like pebbly, gratingly icy. The recent frozen rain did the trails no favors. I skied Theodore Wirth and the trail condition difference was stark! Let’s hope for some good snow to improve our St Paul trails!

Skied yesterday (slushy) and today (frozen). The morning grooming covered up most of the emergent vegetation that was prevalent yesterday. Classic track was surprisingly good. The snow flurry was accumulating in the track allowing decent grip. Great job, groomers!
