The cross country ski trail at The Highland golf course was groomed this morning. The 6" of snow that fell yesterday allowed us to groom a new classic track as well. There are a few icy spots but overall the trail is in great condition. Stay warm and enjoy!

The Diggins effect had me on skate for one lap at 830am at 31 degrees. Then gave up due to the hard crust and ice. Thanks to a fellow skier, I learned the classic tracks had just enough powder left for some kick. Some great striding for two laps. There are definitely turns that are all ice, brown patches and a few stretches of too much debris in the track to stride. The rising temps were starting to change conditions around 930, classic got worse and the skate deck should soften for the better but it won't last long before mashed potatoes. But as Jessie shows us, you just make the most of it!

Conditions varied widely from fair to good: shallow track and icy corners in some places, and long stretches of well-defined grooves in others. Skating deck looked firm; indeed people were having no problem passing me. Hadn't been groomed in a while. Not surprising given the lack of snow.

Good coverage overall, but slow due to windblown snow. I was classic skiing but spent much of that time out of the tracks due to snow filling up the tracks. The skate deck was hard but not too icy. There was some ice in the typical corners. When the tracks were clear (about 50% of the time) they were rocket fast.

Thank you for the snow and the hard work to get it groomed and tracked. I went out last week here and it was too icy to even be worthwhile but with the new snow today was great. The track was fast but with good kick even though a few portions were skied out. The track was clear of snow and the ice under only showed at the top of hills or turns. The downhill turns were soft to feel safe while having some speed. The skate deck looked good and felt slower than the track the few times I went on it. There was one spot with grass poking through but overall totally worth it. As good as to be expected.

My last ski at Highland this year? It was pretty icy out there at 11:30 a.m. today. No fun and a little scary whenever I was approaching a down-slope (I bypassed the steep down-slope with the sharp left turn at the bottom). The stride tracks looked to be in better shape than the skate deck. The grooming was pretty fresh. Pray for snow!

Good skiing -- better than I expected. The snow pack was soft (not hard and icy). There was also some new snow on top. Nice smooth skate skiiing. The trails have good coverage.

Got outside to Highland for a morning ski before the heat wave later today. Classic tracks were in pretty good shape! One or two grassy patches on the hilly areas. Thanks to the groomers for making the most of the snow, I had a wonderful morning out there!
