Trail Reports

2020-2021 season
Reports 14 to 22 of 22    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Tuesday, January 26, 2021
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skate skied the entire trail system other than Devils Run. I would rate conditions for skating as fair at best. The skate deck was soft and very uneven which made for very slow going. That being said, it was still good to get out and skate ski. There were still spots with low snow depth.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All of Anvil trail system has been packed and combed. With the new snow received over the weekend we can now say we have a 6 inch base and things are starting to shape up! Attempts were made to knife and groom trail but the snow level is still not adequate enough to set track. This is a great time for skate skiing!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Anvil trails have been packed and groomed. Most areas have a 4 inch base but with low precipitation there are still areas that have very little snow pack less than an inch. Grooming weather has been excellent this week and trails look great for what snow is present. Get out this weekend and enjoy the freshly groomed Anvil Ski Trails!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trails are in the best condition they have been in all year! Still very little snow, mostly under 3 inches with a few bare spots under old growth areas. All Anvil trails have been rolled and packed but no attempts at setting track have been made.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
With the last system that came through the area, the Anvil trail has been packed and rolled. The snow base is still under 2 inches with bare spots still present in some areas. Please take caution in skiing some of the trails over the weekend as we still do not have the best snow for this time of year. We hope that the next system that comes though will bring a more favorable report.

Observation
I stopped by the Anvil Trails today after skiing at the Pioneer Creek Trails. The Anvil Trails look to be strictly walking trails at this point as there has been heavy walking activity and the parking lot was 3/4 full. Need more snow so Forest Service can flat groom at least.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trail was rolled and packed on Sunday, but snow amounts are still under 3 in. The trail has bare spots and leaf litter throughout. Grooming plans: With the next weather system we anticipate rolling this trail system to make a good base, no grooming has been attempted at this point.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
We are all ready to get out and enjoy the new snow but as a reminder no grooming has been attempted and there is only enough snow to cover the ground. To this point the Forest Service has cleared and brushed back all the Anvil Trail System. New signage has been put up at the West parking area off Forest Road 2178 to identify the entrances to the Ski and Snowshoe Trails. Grooming plans: The Forest Service will continue to monitor the snowfall, update this site and will be out to groom when there is enough snow to pack for a good base. Happy Holidays and here is hoping for more fresh snow soon.
