What a spectacular day at Winter Park! The trails were groomed perfectly and in excellent condition. Skied nearly the entire trail system. Coming from snow starved Madison, it was a treat to ski on plentiful natural snow. Today was one of those days that remind me why I love to ski.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All of the trails have been groomed in the last two days and are looking fabulous! There’s a ton of fresh corduroy and classic tracks out there this morning. The average base is 6-7 inches so the coverage is very good. It’s shaping up to be an excellent weekend of skiing.

Conditions are first rate here at Winter Park. Skied out to Lake Marie and then through Wolf Tracks, everything was really nice for skate, good classic track as well. Fast and a lot of fun.

Classic skied Tornado Alley, Nutcracker, Yukon, Beaver Pond. Very well groomed (Nutcracker was less recently groomed), lots of debris in classical tracks. Many thanks to MWP for keeping the chalet (and ski shop) fully open, which is greatly appreciated on these very cold days.

Despite the high winds, both the skate deck and classic tracks were in great condition! Very little debris was encountered, and the debris that the wind dropped onto trails was easy to avoid. Classic tracks were deep and in tact, despite the use by skiers young and old, experienced and novice. The skate deck was firm and thus offered a pleasant experience. The Winter Park trails offer shelter from the wind. It was a beautiful day to be there! Winter Park never disappoints!

Almost the whole park was groomed last night and, even though it snowed a bit on top of the fresh corduroy, I had a fantastic day out on the trails! The new snow made the black diamond trails I skied (Windy Ridge, Nutcracker, and Beaver Pond) controllable but not too terribly soft. The double tracked classic-only trail Sidekick was also freshly groomed for the first time! The good skis came out for their maiden voyage this year as the base is now about 6 inches. Conditions are excellent!

With all the new snow, I decided it was a good time to use my backcountry skiis. I skied the Big Pine Wilderness trail. I had to break the trail for the entire Big Pine trail. It was nice to get back out on my backcountry skis for the.first time this season. I then skied the base loop and VOMax trails for a total of 11 kilometers. Backcountry skiing can be slow but it’s still very enjoyable. All the new snow should make outstanding conditions once the groomers work their magic.

It snowed 7 inches this morning and the grooming team was out early to roll and groom the trails. It snowed a couple inches on top of the trails that the Pisten Bully had finish groomed, but I still had a blast breaking in the classic tracks on my 10km loop. Tomorrow is going to be a great day out there and I’ll be back for more.

Wonderful conditions yesterday and today at Minocqua Winter park. Parking lot overflowed both days. Trails do have dirt spots at places, but they are easy to spot and to get around. I checked B skis but really one can get away with best skis on the main trails, in fact I used my good skis including on some remote trails and no issues. Classic tracks look pretty much excellent throughout, but I did not got on my classic skis. What an impressive grooming operation they have!

I checked B skis, but for most part good skis. The skate deck looked pretty dang good wherever we skied, track was almost perfect with just a few shady grey, indeterminate brown spots to mar the pristine whiteness. Gettin’s good right now. Some resolution somewhere should be a trip to WP, an easy one to keep.
