There were amazing cross country skiing conditions this afternoon in Superior with three inches or so of fresh snow, perfectly groomed trails and ideal temperatures. I classic skied the entire green and the inner purple trails. I can't wait to go again tomorrow.

The new snow did wonders at the Sup-town Muni trails! And, as usual, it's hard to not have fresh cord beneath your skis! Groomers were hard at it when I arrived at 9:30. A few spots where the snow had a bit of dirt in it and the usual pine cone sections. Snow was cold, fresh, and slow. But the skiing was great!

As usual, freshly groomed skate deck at SMF this morning (all but yellow groomed today) and fantastic conditions. The usual spotty trail debris (cones, leaves, dirt) - especially in the sheltered parts of the purple connector, but nothing that would do any significant ski damage. The yellow today was especially enjoyable as it was nice and fast and a great job done repairing the UTV damage on the flat portion (you would hardly know it happened). Thank you again SMF groomers and City of Superior for your consistently good conditions this winter.

This would normally be a rave review, but we were skiing yesterday on the Northshore where there is tons of snow. Nonetheless despite less snow at Superior, conditions are very good. Excellent grooming really helped. The sun came out after noon and moderate temps made for or a lovely day skiing.

I classic skied and skate skied the Superior Municipal Forest red, green and purple trails today. The tracks and skate decks were firm and fast! It was a great day to be outside. Blue sky, sunshine and manageable temperatures made for a wonderful day. There was very little debris after the groomers came through later in the morning to early afternoon. We had 40 mph winds last night, so earlier in the day there was going to be some debris. It is wise to ski these trails later in the morning or in the afternoon after an overnight snowfall or if there are high winds. The groomers are out there daily and will take of things if they are given time to groom.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trail conditions continue to be holding up well and everything has been freshly groomed and track set throughout. The upper (flat) part of the Yellow trail sustained damage from an unauthorized motorized use on Wednesday evening. Groomers have done what they could today with it and will continue to work on it Friday to hopefully get it back up to a high standard trail as it sets back up. If you witness any such illegal activity taking place please take note and report accordingly as this is the second occurrence this season we have encountered.

Great conditions, great grooming for almost all the trails. However, someone drove a vehicle on the west side of the yellow loop and left deep ruts in the skate deck. The groomers did a decent job cleaning it up but it's still pretty uneven and there's a lot of soft spots. There's no classic track set on that part of the yellow loop either.

I'll add another glowing report for these trails. Superior is the best groomed system in the area which makes it a great ski value. The entire system was groomed today and was in as good of shape as possible. There are some spots that are thin and need more snow. Those thin spots are easily avoidable. That is why I rated it B skis. I started at 3:40pm and worked my way out to Brown's point and back seeing only five other skiers. The skate deck was firm and moderately fast and the tracks looked solid and deep. Make sure you buy a seasons pass to help support all the great work that gets done here.

I almost feel like a broken record when I report about the Superior Municipal Forest trail because of the daily grooming! We were again treated to fresh cord and the tracks were reset today. I'm a chicken on hills (despite skiing 20 Kortes) and the tracks were so firm that I stayed in them instead of my typical get out and snowplow for many hills. We skied the red and green. Kudos to those hard working groomers!

I had a wonderful skate ski today on the Superior Municipal Forest yellow trail. I only saw one other set of tracks this afternoon. The skate deck and the classic tracks were in perfect shape! Everything was fast and firm. All of the SMF trails were freshly groomed for skate and classic skiing. I was surprised how fast the skate deck was, even with the extremely cold temperatures. It was windy, with a twenty five mile per hour sustained wind and a windchill of ten below zero, but once you got in the forest it was fine. I ski here five or six days a week and alternate skate and classic styles and every time I’ve gone out the grooming has been great. It’s so hard to beat these trails.
