Trail Detail
Notes
Located 18 miles north of Duluth, the groomed trails are in nice primitive outdoor setting. The trails feature the "Wolfski's Ski Den" warming shack, open daily sunrise to sunset. In addition to the 21 kilometers of classical skiing, there will also be 11 kilometers groomed for skate-skiing. Trails are groomed Fridays and Mondays, and/or as needed. No fee or Minnesota State Ski Pass is required.Trail Reports

Great conditions at South Loop today! Classic track was firm, well-used but intact, reasonably fast. Minimal debris from crushed pine cones. Skate deck appeared firm and fast. Enjoy! Thank you, groomers!

Great ski at Boulder Lake today! Bear Paw and Blue Ox. Classic tracks were well used but still intact. Few pine cones here and there. Tracks were firm and not slow. Skate deck looked firm; several four- and two-legged friends were out. There is one tree that’s falling down but just hanging over the track at Blue Ox about the 2.5k mark. Parking lot was nearly full. Lovely day to be on skis! Many thanks, groomers!

Trails have been groomed since the last snow and well used today. The skate deck skied firm and fast. I skated but classic track looks good too. Some pine cones and leaves on the trail but nothing that would damage a ski. Very enjoyable!

I took the north loop — Rolling Pin, Timber Cruiser, Ridge Runner and Otter Run. They had not been groomed recently with about a half-inch of fresh snow in the tracks. Many places were skied or flattened out, but I had a wonderful time just the same with good kick and glide. Otter Run was especially nice — a time of quiet communion with the giant white pines. Beware of the hill from Ridge Runner at the Timber Cruiser junction. It was steep, untracked and uneven!

Overcast and 24 degrees when I arrived just after noon, 22 and clearing when I left a bit after 3 pm. Excellent skiing, both skate and classic. Trails were groomed late Tuesday, and last night's cm or two of snow had been nicely skied in to the very good track, so glide was great. Blue wax gave excellent kick. I also hopped out to the skate lane a number of times for a few V2s. It was nice and firm and the cm or so of fluffy snow gave a wonderful feel. Virtually no leaves in the classic tracks, which have been a problem elsewhere. The few places with some pine needles did not seem to slow my glide at all. I think best conditions at Boulder in a couple of years.

Groomed either early morning or yesterday evening. Nice conditions and fast. Some pine needles on the trail.

Noob Classic Skier. Skied Otter, not groomed recently, lots of snowshoe tracks in ski lines. I use Fischer Twin Skins (waxless) and found that I had a little trouble with gliding. Weather was nice, 20 degrees and slight wind, snow was over a foot deep and well packed on the trail. Not too crowded, but super friendly people on the trail!

Bear Paw, Nine Pines, and Blue Ox all in good condition with very little debris other than the occasional leaf or pinecone. Trails are pretty firm underneath about an inch and a half of new snow making things somewhat slow going. Classic tracks looked solid except across the lake.
