The manmade ski conditions were very good as the report by the groomer at 8:38am. Loose snow over a frozen hard ski deck made for good edging and fast skiing that was very controllable on the magic carpet. At noon, the sun areas were getting a little slower but still good skiing. So enjoyable, I skied 26k of manmade (15 lap + 1 small loop).

The bright sun and warmth have settled the snow down so that it’s not blowing around in the strong west wind. Conditions for skate are good - generally fast but slowing in areas of direct sunlight. Newly shaded areas are refreezing quickly. Tracks are solid, but old.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Good morning. After a surprise snowfall the trails have been groomed. The skate deck on the man made loop was tilled by the PB. The classic track was left in place and is in great condition. The DNR groomed off the man made loop and should be in good shape.

Very excellent conditions on the manmade snow loops. Perfect skate deck. New sets of side by side tracks. Fast and fun, especially the descent down Magic Carpet. You get all this and more for just an annual State vehicle sticker and trail pass!

The man made loop was tilled by the PB late last night. A new classic track was set and the skate deck was touched up. Conditions should be great. The DNR groomed off the man made loop.

Excellent skating conditions on the manmade snow loops this afternoon. A variable depth layer of transformed snow on a firm base made for fast but very controllable skiing. Striding tracks are looking worn and a bit icy - fast, though, I’m sure.

I classic skied the man-made and green (not man made snow) loops. The classic tracks on the man made loop were glazed and I was slipping a bit so I decided to try the natural snow on the green loop, but that was a huge mistake. The classic tracks were solid ice, and shallow or nonexistent in many places. I was on fishscales that were of zero use, and I wound up doing a lot of double polling and classic skied on the skate lane to get back to the man made loop. The skate deck was also rutted and icy in places on the natural snow. The skate deck of the man made loop was fast and even despite a busy day. " Magic carpet" and the always pleasant scenery were the highlights of an otherwise frustrating day for classic skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Good morning, the stars have finally aligned here at Lapham Peak State Park. We received 2 to 3 inches of high moisture snow Friday evening into Saturday morning. I just came in off the man-made loop, I groomed and set tracks on the entire man-made loop with our sweet brand spanking new amazing pisten bully! Skiing should be awesome on the man-made Loop. It was down to 28° while I was grooming. The DNR continues to groom the entire trail system with the Ginsu. The new snow will help cover some of the thin spots, but I would still use B skis or rock skis off the manmade ski trails.

Skied the whole black loop. Surprisingly good coverage all the way. Some dirt on the uphills, a rock here and there, tracks are pretty worn out. Should be very skiable all day on Sunday.

What a difference a day makes. A couple of inches of wet snow overnight made for challenging skate conditions. Nothing was groomed overnight due to the warm, wet conditions. Striding appeared to be the better choice, technique-wise. But...just wait till it dries out, cools down, and the PB comes out.
