Very nice skiing this afternoon. The snow is new and cold, which makes it feel slow. Base is quite firm. Classic tracks are plentiful and look to be excellent. Great job by the volunteer and DNR groomers.

Grooming

The entire lighted trail was groomed last night by the PB. Expect some of the best conditions of the year so far. The DNR groomed off the light trail and conditions there should be great as well.

Lots of new snow made for slow conditions for skating this afternoon. Striders seemed to be moving along nicely, laughing at me as they went by. Stiff north wind did not help. This looks to me like very good skiing snow - not too wet and not to dry - and I think it will groom up nicely. Also noted good skate conditions off the manmade loops.

With the report of good conditions by the groomer this morning, I chose to ski the virtual Lapham Loppet and it was fast and controllable especially on the magic carpet. My time of 1:01:32 for the 7 laps (12K) was my fastest this season. Later skied the non manmade which also was groomed and it was good with still much of the corduroy visible and good coverage.

I just came in off the man-made loop, the whole lighted loop. Our sweet new Pisten Bully has really improved the ski trails with the 3 inches of snow we received yesterday. The DNR continues to groom the whole trail system and it also has greatly improved ski conditions.

New snow made for slower conditions and more work, at least for mere mortals like me. Loose layer of fresh snow on a firm base. Okay off the manmade snow loops, but still icy underneath the new snow, especially in the pine areas.

Good morning. It was a magical, snowy, mystical morning while I was grooming. At times it was close to a white out. Sitting in the cab of our sweet new Pisten Bully grooming Snow as Mother Nature was showering the snow down upon us. I groomed and set tracks on the entire man-made loop. The DNR continues to groom the entire trail system off the man-made. Andrew was out grooming while I was grooming. It will be a winter wonderland at Lapham Peak State Park this morning. Come on out and enjoy skiing before the Packers kick some Bucs tail.

Perfect morning to do my virtual Lapham Loppet. Manmade snow trails were freshly groomed with the Pisten Bully, providing an excellent surface for skate and stride. Comfortable temps, bright sun, and very little wind made for ideal conditions. Does not get any better.

Grooming

I groomed and set tracks on all the man-made trails with our sweet new Pisten Bully early this morning. Our sweet PB was able to till the entire hard packed skate deck and icy tracks. The skiing today should be incredibly fun! The DNR continues to groom their entire trail system off the man-made. I would definitely use B skis or rock skis.

The warmth from yesterday followed by the cold last night froze the base and surface snow layer, but the ginzu grooming was able to loosen up just enough powdery snow to provide a good skating surface on the manmade snow loops. Downhills provide some excitement, and one climb up Tail End was enough for me - frozen hard. Wind still an issue, but direction has changed. It’s very good today and should be great tomorrow.
