Great conditions out at Magney right now. Nice corduroy skate deck and deep firm classic tracks. The connector to Spirit is icy but the rest of the system is great. Only marking B skis as there are a few blind approaches to downhills with some dirty patches. If you are willing to make the drive it is well worth your time!

I arrived at 2:45 and the groomer had just finished (a fat bike race was held on the trail Saturday morning). Tracks were fast and I had a great ski, although there seemed to be a lot more branches in my face than the last time I skied there. I guess the trail is narrowing. In a few places the groomer had lifted the tracksetter for a short distance. I noticed that the skate lane was undulating in a few sections. Saw one skater. Sorry no photos, phone died right away in the just-above-zero temps.

Magney always has issues with debris in the trails, but this is the worst I've ever seen it. It's like someone emptied leaf bags all along the trail. To complicate matters, a skater with a wide stance must have gone out before the grooming had a chance to set up, carving deep ruts into the skate lane and punching wedges of snow into the classic tracks every couple of feet. Other than that, the grooming is good - firm skate lane, deep, firm tracks, hard but not icy. But all in all, I'd recommend skiing elsewhere, especially if you're kicking.

Moderate conditions - a few dirty patches which are easy to step around. Unfortunately a couple snowmobiles have been over the entire northwestern portion (from snowmobile intersection to the Spirit connector) leaving sizable ruts throughout the skate lane and occasionally ruining the tracks. Hopeful for more snow and grooming to come!

As usual at Magney there were oak leaves. I planned ahead and brought the skins. Conditions were great and had a blast. Hardly anyone there.

Magney was fantastic today. With mild temps and a solid trail, skating was as good as it gets. I appreciated all the extra effort to pack out the edges of the trail with the lighter equipment and then top it all off with the Pisten Bully. I didn't encounter any punchy spots thanks to all that packing effort. A couple people had walked down the middle which was unfortunate but luckily they didn't make too big of craters. The next couple days should be excellent out there!

Spectacular skiing at Magney! Hats off to the groomers for laying down a beautiful classic track around the entire system, including the connector to Spirit. It doesn't get any better than this.
