Skied during the snowfall this morning. Got just enough to cover the icy patches. Skate deck felt firm under the fresh snow. Lovely day to be out. Thanks to the groomers!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed the skate deck and set new tracks late tonight, conditions should be great once it cools off. Other than a few easily avoidable thin spots, coverage is excellent. You could bring your good skis if you're cautious on the thinner stuff under the trees and out in the windswept areas. Happy New Year!

My first time at Columbia this year did not disappoint! Great conditions all around, the tracks are in excellent shape. There are a few thin and icy spots under some trees but it was easily avoided. There were some folks out skijoring which was fun to watch. Thanks to the groomers for keeping things in such good shape!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Columbia was rolled and groomed this morning. Coverage is generally good and I was able to shovel over the few grass and ice spots I noticed. The groomer really spread out the drifted snow nicely, so even most of the wind scoured areas have a coating of new snow. Tracks were set and looked mostly excellent, although they will be shallow where the snow is thin. I expect a fair amount of drifting in places this afternoon, but that should hopefully settle down in a day or so. I checked B skis, but you could probably use your good skis if you were careful.

Grooming

Columbia is rolled. Lots of blowing and drifting snow. Easy side of railroad bridge has good powder with some crusty spots. Also a small slush area above the golf clubhouse parking lot. West side of railroad bridge is mix of powder and crust. Significant bare spots on NW stretch across from pickleball club building. Grooming plans: Grooming to happen in the next day or two.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed the skate deck of Columbia today. It was softening up a little and I was pleased with how much coverage there was after days of above freezing. I left the tracks that were set last because I wasn't sure I'd be able to set anything better. There are leaves, some ice and a few easily avoidable open patches, but the course is definitely skiable. I suggested B skis, but be careful of ice and any protruding debris. The west descent off the bridge has a couple icy patches on the turn so be careful on your descent. Due to time, I only could add one sled full of snow on the west section by Brother Justice and Lucky Shots to create a snow bridge where there is a stretch of ice. It should be navigable to avoid skiing on ice and leaves. Grooming plans: I will continue to add snow to thin sections and ice over the next few days. I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday and hope to see you out on the course! Enjoy!

Thanks to our amazing Christmas Groomer! He was out making his second pass around the course right after noon. It was getting nice and churned up on the skate deck. Before we saw him grooming we did some of the back bowls too which were like nice March lake crust.

Merry Christmas and Thank you Col Groomers! Nice to get out this afternoon despite mixed conditions. Found crust skating to be a nice alternative to the icy / debris patches.

Phew that was a rough skate this morning. The deck is a combo of ice with icy ruts. Combined with oak leaves and squirrel-induced tree debris, it was a challenging ski. Tracks were there but very icy.

Crunchy, icy but skiable at sunrise today. Not too many ruts. Some ice and bare spots but always a way to get through. Keep your tips in snowplow/pizza wedge on the downhills just in case. A shout out to Jim, Mike and Blaine for the continued magic with the grooming. And thanks for opening the Northeast quandrant of the course. It's been a few years since that was open I think.
