Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
For the lack of snow we've had, the groomers did a good job with coverage. The classic tracks are shallow, but skiable. Snow was very slow as the the temps reached 30+ at noon.

Felt lucky to have such a beautiful ski this morning and to see so many folks out enjoying the cool morning. Skate deck was smooth and solid. A few thin spots here and there, but easy to avoid. Conditions may degrade over the next few days, but hopefully we come out ahead for this weekend's Loppet events at Columbia.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We got the snowmobile back from its work at the City of Lakes Loppet events this weekend. Columbia got groomed tonight and new classic tracks were set. Skate deck looks really good. There are some thin spots here and there but should be good otherwise. Classic tracks are shallow, but do exist. Let's hope the next couple of days are gentle on the course. But come ski Columbia! It looks pretty good right now.

The skate deck is a bit of a mixed bag. It is getting pretty icy and thin in spots with drifts in other areas and some of the deck is in quite good shape. There are bare spots in the usual places that are pretty easily skied around. The classic tracks are difficult to find in most spots. Our groomers have done a great job with the course - we just need more snow!

The trails were all open and in pretty good shape throughout with only a few bare or icy spots that I skied around. Classic tracks were shallow, but present enough throughout most of the course to work pretty well. The skate deck looked pretty good too.

I'd rate the skating at Columbia pretty good today. It's seen plenty of traffic since yesterday's grooming, but the deck is still in good shape. There are a few windblown hilltops that are slightly icy and the trace of snow we got yesterday has drifted onto the trail here and there. All very skiable though. There are 3 or 4 easily avoidable thin spots - as always be careful over by the clubhouse. I used my good skis with no worries. The classic tracks are very shallow but they are mostly free of debris.

Overall, the trails were in much better shape than I expected! The cover was consistently good throughout and it was not too icy. There were some thin and icy spots, pretty much where you would expect, but generally, they were very easy to avoid. The skate deck also seemed to be much faster than I had anticipated. It seems the trail is holding up well despite the lack of snow and I was able to get a good 10k workout in on a cold winter night!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed the skate deck and reset the tracks. The skate deck actually looks beautiful. I'm sure it will be slow with the cold temps, but it's firm, smooth and not icy. The tracks... well, let's just say they aren't those flashy, full depth tracks you sometimes see? They're a bit more discreet. Subtle. Barely there. Bundle up and come ski Columbia!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The trail was groomed Tuesday afternoon and again late Tuesday night and the skate deck is in really good shape. All the icy spots have been taken care of. I wasn't able to reset the classic tracks with the thin/hard snow, but they're is good shape for 75% of the loop...washed out in the corners. Lots of blowing snow on Tuesday so expect some drifting in open areas. You could likely get by with your good skis if you're careful on the hill by the clubhouse. Get out and Ski Columbia! It's about the best natural snow in the area right now!

Tough ski due to icy conditions in some of the trail and the fading classic tracks. The fresh breeze that giveth on the downwind do taketh on the upwind passages.
