Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed and set tracks tonight. Snow is thin but overall pretty good. Tracks are shallow too, but should ski well. Just use caution. Happy new year from Columbia!

Skied at sunset, which wasn't the brightest idea -- hard to see the trail in some places! Snow was indeed fairly thin but much of the trail was quite skiable. There is some waviness and a few thin spots, including some places where you can hit asphalt or bridge decking. But given the snowfall, it was nice skiing, and surprisingly fast conditions. Saw a half dozen other skiers in the one lap I did.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
I moved more snow on to the section of trail between the clubhouse and the railroad bridge and on to the bridge itself. Still fairly thin in spots so be careful. I also added some snow to the trail at the entrance and exit of the driving range. I groomed everything again tonight so it should set up nice with colder temps. Overall not bad considering conditions. Unfortunately it's still too thin to set classic tracks.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I went out to Columbia on this cold day about noon. My dad and I were the only ones out there. I ended up seeing two others come out as I was leaving but pretty quiet. We were skate skiing the 1/3 mile loop off the driving range parking lot. It was nice to be on snow and not ice. There were a few spots where you could see grass. There were no classic tracks! The rest of the loop looked to be open.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
We spent some time shoveling bare spots and doing multiple passes to firm up the skate deck. All in all, snow is still soft but will hopefully firm up a bit overnight. For now classic tracks aren't set as snowpack is so thin. Overall skate coverage is good with a few locations where some dirt is poking through. Specifically be careful on the south side of the railroad bridge as skis can scrape on pavement.

Groomer finished three laps by the time I left at 5 pm and it was pretty good! Nice to have real, local, groomed snow. Groomers hadn’t set the classic track yet but was still making laps. Thanks to the groomers for their hard work! Also, watch out for the neutral color ropes the golf crews put around the greens this year- they are invisible at dusk and at night so if you are breaking trail you can easily get closelined. Morning
Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
The trail was rolled this morning. There are many areas with dirt and grass showing through, and all the cart paths have spotty coverage. The bridge is also partially bare. It may be possible to ski with the rockiest of rock skis, but I would not recommend it today.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Bare ground ]
Classic tracks have been pulled off life support. Many many bare spots and I would not consider them viable for skiing. I wish I would have gone out there this morning as I know the groomers did a lot of work last night to keep them on their last legs. I don't see myself skiing the classic again until more snow fall. The skate deck was looking somewhat rough, but much more viable.

The skate deck is in very good condition, especially considering the warm weather and recent traffic. Thank you to the groomers for keeping up the course. I did not ski past the bridge onto the east side of the course.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The Columbia crew was out for a few hours this evening shoveling snow, covering bare spots, and grooming. We are crossing our fingers that the trail can make it through this warm spell. The skate deck is holding up well, and the classic track is on life support but much of it is still useable. Doing all we can to maintain current conditions.
