Excellent conditions. Groomers were out integrating the fresh inch or two into the incredibly deep base. Classic tracks were good. I was classic skiing, but the skate lanes were firm enough despite the fresh snow.

Beautiful winter conditions! All trails were just re-groomed again as the snow just keeps coming this year. Trail base is deep and firm – excellent skate deck. Classic track set on all trails. All ski trails will be groomed throughout the weekend as needed, regardless of snowfall. Comfortable temps in the teens and twenties are predicted for the upcoming days – excellent skiing weather!

I loved my first time at the Central Gunflint. The tracks were in great condition. We’ve often canoed up here in the summer but seeing it in the snow it was a whole new experience.

The Central Gunflint trails are always amazing with great grooming for both classic and skate. This morning was no exception. We always start our ski at Golden Eagle Lodge as we like it’s old time ambiance and great hospitality. The trails really have a Boundary Waters feel to them with lots of hills and scenic beauty! We just had an excellent ski!

We skied the Bear Cub world cup trail and it did not disappoint. There was about an inch of new snow over the corduroy and this was appreciated as we had never been on this section before. There are some VERY big and steep drops and the loose snow helped stabilize the skis. This trail is strenuous and sustained for the whole length.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We received just shy of 15 inches of snow in the last 4 days. The groomers have been busy staying on top of all the new accumulation. All ski trails are open and groomed. Lakes are a bit slushy after all the new snow so if you are looking to cross them on your desired ski route, be prepared for a little slop – there is still plenty of ice to cross safely. With another inch of snow this morning, things are getting freshened up again today. Excellent conditions.

Wonderful grooming of the Central Gunflint system starting at Bearskin Lodge. Classic skied campground, summertime, Beaver Dam and Upper Ridge Run, then skated Bear Club. Best snow I have had all season. Great kick and glide in spite of cold temps below 10 degrees. Skating was a bit slow only due to temps. Deck was firm, classic tracks impeccable, and sunshine amazing. Great way to finish the year.

About 10k groomed when I skied (all classic and skate trail), great condition and grooming at the Bearskin side of the trails. The trails crossing the lake appear to be closed, though. Little dusting on top of the tracks due to the continuous snowfall, but nice firm base underneath. Pole plants aren't too soft either! I used larger classic baskets and smaller skate baskets and was mostly fine. The tracks were dreamy for classic skiing as well.

Conditions are good for both classic and skate skiing. We skied Summer Home Road, Moose Pasture and part of the Beaver Dam Trail and it was delightful. As usual, very peaceful and no one else out on the trails.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Approximately 55km of the 70km of trails are open and groomed. It is safe to use good skis on the majority of trails with the exception of North South Link and West End Logging Camp where rock skis are still recommended. The 55km of trails were all groomed again on the 10th of December. Great skiing, especially for this early in the year. Trail base average 7" in depth.
