Notes

Mcnaughton Lake Trail follows old logging roads around three lakes and has very few steep hills. It is very scenic and an excellent trail for a beginner. A five and a half mile loop is groomed for skating. There is a shelter with a fire ring on the trail.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
This is one of the few trails that offer both classic and freestyle skiing. Last year, the groomer struggled to keep the skate loop groomed. Therefore, I was pleased to see it groomed this year. There was a bit of new snow on top of the skate deck which was just a bit icy underneath, so speed was a bit on the slow side. Overall conditions were good.

Firsthand: Classic

Arrived late morning. The groomer was just finishing. They did a terrific job. No debris issues. Snow clinging to the hemolocks was beautiful. One of those winter wonderland days. A fair number of skiers were there. Those using wax were having icing up issues as were some using no-wax. Some F4 on our no-wax gave us no problems.

Firsthand: Freestyle

Freestyle trail ok from parking lot to warming shelter, then groomed too narrow around McNaughton lake. Ski tips catch on side of trail, especially uphill. Two inches powder also complicates things.

Freshly groomed yesterday, tracks a bit shallow, many bits of tree trash but - skiing conditions are delightful here. I just love the big old pine trees! A definite destination ski system for visitors to the area.
